Tucson Medical Center - New Grad Pay?
$24/hr huh? Well, that doesn't surprise me since I've been there 2 years and make less than that. TMC is all about recruiting but not about keeping their staff. I'm about ready to pay back my sign on bonus to leave as well. Question is, where do I go? Not much available to me with the specialty I'm in. Right now that's the only thing keeping me there. That and I LOVE my coworkers. If it weren't for them I'd be in the looney bin by now. Oh, and yes most of the units are carpeted, though they are planning on changing that over the next few years, or so I hear.

Not sure I an do this
Hi all, I am new to this forum, but not to this website. I am a new grad (graduated Dec 05) who is 4 shifts away from finishing a 7 week orientation on a postpartum unit. I just started the night shift 2 shifts ago. When I was on days, I was feeling pretty confident for the most part. There were still things I had questions on but I felt like I was ready to be on my own knowing that I had a very supportive staff to help out if I needed it. But since I started nights I feel like a complete idiot that has no business being a nurse. I feel like I've forgotten everything I've learned so far. I feel really unorganized too, even though I felt pretty organized on days. I am dreading going to work tomorrow night, especially since I'll be doing 3 in a row. I've made 2 really STUPID mistakes, which I can't stop thinking about. And no matter how tired I am when I get home in the mornings I can't sleep because I keep thinking about work. I've already gotten sick...apparently my immune system is aware of how stressed out and tired I am. I cry very easily. I don't know what to do. I've made myself a new report sheet to try to help with the organization, but I still feel really scared and really stupid. Last shift an oncoming day shift nurse was upset with me because one of my patients refused her 0600 ibuprofen that her Dr. had ordered. The day shift nurse said she'll get yelled at by the doc now since I didn't give the med. But the pt. refused it! I can't force her to take something she doesn't want! What should I have done? I don't really know what I expect to get out of posting this...I guess I just needed to let it all outand maybe get some tips on adjusting to a whole new shift along with a whole new career. I don't even know if it's really the night shift that's making me feel so crappy or if it's the realization that soon I will be on my own. Maybe it's both. Anyway, thanks for reading. Megan

What stethoscope for L&D???
I've got the same stethescope you have, and I work Mom/Baby. You don't need to buy a separate peds one, since the Cardiology III has the optional peds side instead of the bell. Good luck! Hope HR calls you soon! Megan

RN Scrubs
uniformadvantage.com jascouniform.com Great prices at both of these places. I like uniform advantage the best. That's where I get most of my scrubs. Megan

PLEASE HELP ME CHOOSE, UMC, TMC, or Carondolet...
I have to say I agree with you about TMC's med surg floors. I hated it when I did my clinicals there! But, I had good experiences on the other units there. I did an externship on the cardiac ICU and it was wonderful. I also did a rotation on tele at NWH and most of the nurses there were so nice! That was very refreshing. I did ultimately choose TMC as my employer. I will be working on the postpartum unit, with hopes to get to L/D one day. I did my preceptorship in L/D and I loved it! Megan

New Grad??? Salary??
I am in Tucson, so no banner info. But I was offered 20.50 to start plus shift differential. I did an externship and made 11.00 for that. Megan

Tips for passing time while waiting for results?
ahhhhh. i finished my nclex about 3 hours ago and i'm already going insane waiting to find out if i passed. it's torture! even though i know i won't find out my results till tomorrow at the earliest, i keep checking the website just to see if maybe i'll get lucky. i had 75 questions so even though i know you can't tell if you pass or fail based on the # of questions, i keep analyzing that 75 thinking of all the different ways i could have passed or failed with that number. anyone else waiting for results? oh, need a drink! megan

Question for an assignment: Why did you become a nurse?
Hi! I posted this question in the nursing student assistance forum but haven't gotten any responses. Thanks! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We're doing presentations in our Trends and Issues class, and my group is discussing why people want to be nurses, among other things. So, would you mind asking the question "Why did you become a nurse?" THANK YOU!! Megan

Hello AZZzzzz....
Yeah, study cardiac! Know it front and back, up and down, and side to side! Basically, refresh your memory on everything you learned in 2nd semester, plus study mechanical ventilation, ABG's, rhythm strips, hemodynamic monitoring, neuro stuff, endocrine system...there's a lot! Good luck! Megan

Hello AZZzzzz....
I did the externship at TMC. I really liked it, but then again I didn't have a full time job in addition to it! Wow, I don't know how you did it! Yep, only 5 more weeks of classes, thank God. I'm so ready for it to be over. I'm doing my preceptorship at TMC. I fiugre I might as well stay there...the majority of my clinical rotations have been there. Right now I'm at Northwest. All the nurses I've worked with have been awesome, but I live on the SE side of town and I hate the long drive! Megan
