I got my license in November and have been looking for a job ever since, I know it's an awful time to look for a job in general but this is ridiculous. Anyone else having a hard time?

What about looking for long term care or sub acute centers?

I know Pittsburgh area hospitals and LTCs are still hiring?

Specializes in BSc, ASN- RN, MBA.

Thanks for the reminder about Lancaster. I had started to apply but didn't have my TPP available for the number, so I saved what I had and had planned to return to it.

There is a career fair in King of Prussia on Friday I may check out, but their preliminary list of employers only lists one hospital.

Specializes in He who hesitates is probably right....

Plenty of open nursing positions in Pittsburgh http://www.wpahs.org or http://www.upmc.com.

It's frusterating when you need experience, but can't get the experience because you don't have the experience!! Ugg!

yeh biggest catch 22... It's making me angry.:banghead: :angryfire:

Specializes in ER, Step-Down.

What about Geisinger? We're not some little hobunk hospital used to treat only farmers and Amish (as I've been told some city folk seem to view us as...). Geisinger hired about 60 new grads this past summer (I was one of them) working in EVERY inpatient unit (except in & out surg, gotta start in regular PACU first). It's a great place to look into! Plus the cost of living is cheap and we make decent money compared to other PA hospitals.

Geisinger recently rec'd magnet status..does that mean they only want BSN's?

Geisinger recently rec'd magnet status..does that mean they only want BSN's?

I should hope not! Geisinger has a branch of Thomas Jefferson's ASN program right on campus - it's the program I just graduated from last May. 30 of us from that class were hired into Geisinger, and most of this coming graduating class are being hired here as well. It may EVENTUALLY lead to them preferring BSN's, but there are too few BSN students coming here compared with the amount of non-BSN programs in this immediate area.

Glad to see other people are in the same boat...I'm having NO luck at all with the job search. Does anyone know which hospitals in Philly are hiring new grads?

Lancaster General in the city of Lancaster is hiring GN's on a few units. You can check out the website

Do you guys think this is due to the economy, or is the nursing shortage really over?

I think it's definitely due to the economy. We still have a shortage of nurses, but the hospitals just cannot afford to pay more nurses. Also, some nurses who were working part time increased their hours if their spouse lost their job.
