torn between CALIFORNIA or ILLINOIS

Living in the Midwest, my first question for you would be: Can you tolerate the cold and snow? If the answer is NO....go to CA! But....if the weather doesn't bother you, then the next question is: where do you live now? How much are you accustomed to paying for housing/cost of living? CA is significantly higher in most areas. JMHO

I am licensed in cali and ohio. I would leave this area now in about 2 seconds if my hubby would leave.

Simple answer.................Illinois required CGFNS exam, California does not.

How soon do you wish to be in the US. California is running at least eight months behid for processing of petition for grren card, after you get the offer of a job. And six months to get an ATT letter. Illinois has much better times, but you must have the CGFNS exam and that is only offered three times per year.

Do you like changing seasons, and watching the leaves change color? Want to see snow every winter? Hot summers? Then Illinois could be for you.

Northern California has more change of seasone but the summers never get too hot unless you are driving thru the desert.

California's new ratio law might be another good reason to come here. Hopefully, you might have a chance of better working conditions.

I love it here, and HATE snow. (Although the California mountains still get a lot of it. Don't move there if you're trying to avoid the cold.)

Okay guys - I'm a diehard midwesterner (have lived many different places). However, (a little bragging) Peoria, Illinois was just recently voted the most affordable city!

Northern California DOES get hot in the summer . . . Sacramento, Red Bluff, Redding . . . over 100 . .sometimes 115. But it is "dry heat".

I live in the mountains of N. Cal and we do get snow in the winter. I would love to live someplace tropical because I hate to be cold.

California is very diverse. Mountains, deserts, coastal, big cities, small towns, etc. Crowded, rural.

Lots to choose from.

Some people do forget just how big and diverse CA is. It's not just a beach, ie, Baywatch. It does get quite cold in the mountains in the winter, to the point where roads are closed due to snow.

If you're looking for warm weather, stick with southern California, coastal areas, the SF Bay area. Anywhere else, you're going to get a more varied climate, and more extremes of temp--both hot and cold.

so you are able to be licensed in more than one state a a time? i live in ky but am attending school in illinois, i only live about 20 miles over the state line, and the nursing office was saying that i would have to choose to get my license in ky or illinois. but actually i was hoping to be able to be licensed in both states. or maybe florida eventually...lol
