The liberal propagandist media at work:

"Florida’s largest grocery store and a Florida state official, who is a Democrat, slammed CBS’s “60 Minutes” on Sunday evening following a deceptive segment the network aired about Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R)."

” So, we did that, and what ended up happening was, you had 65 Publix in Palm Beach. Palm Beach is one of the biggest counties, one of the most elderly counties, we’ve done almost 75% of the seniors in Palm Beach, and the reason is because you have the strong retail footprint

DeSantis, Publix: No Connection To $100K Donation And COVID Vaccine Program

The announcement this month that the state is partnering with Publix on vaccination sites comes a month after the supermarket chain made four $25K donations to governor’s political committee.

Quote

Publix and Gov. Ron DeSantis' office denied Thursday there is any connection between the supermarket chain's $100,000 donation to the governor's political committee and their COVID-19 vaccination partnership.

On Jan. 5, DeSantis announced the program in which the state would allocate vaccine doses to Publix pharmacies, where they would be distributed via appointment. As of Thursday, the program included 105 stores in 12 counties.

A month earlier, Publix made four $25,000 donations to Friends of Ron DeSantis.
Prior to the $100,000 in contributions made in December, Publix had donated $50,000 to the governor’s political committee, the most recent of which was $25,000 given in January 2020....

...Publix was publicly criticized in 2018 after it donated $670,000 to DeSantis’ gubernatorial opponent Adam Putnam, who called himself a “proud NRA sellout” and opposed stricter state gun laws passed after the Parkland school shooting.

The Friends of Ron DeSantis committee has raised more than $50 million to date and over a $1 million this past November and December....

It's worthy of investigation that a campaign contributor is going to make millions off the vaccine and how they got to the front of the line.  That said they are one of the largest grocery store chains here and a good choice to participate in the rollout along with Walgreens and CVS.

The Republicans in Florida, like the Republicans elsewhere (like Georgia who lost the election and then trying to make the election "more fair" passed "reform") are not into deception.  They do what they do in broad daylight.  A good example is when voters wanted to give felons the right to vote they found a way around that because it was presumed they would vote Democrat.

DeSantis besides holding a press conference with his donor Publix, also had press conferences in his strong holds like The Villages.  He has not gone into minority neighborhoods and promoted his vaccine plan that I can see.  Perhaps though because studies show that white evangelicals and Republican males are the most vaccine hesitant perhaps this makes sense but to me it seems more political.

I have to give props to him vaccinating nursing homes and the rates of infection and illness there have dropped dramatically.  Big win.

The vaccine is available here now to all ages above 18 and demand is high.  Cases are on the rise and hospitalizations while very manageable remain steady.

He was criticized for vaccinating health care workers and the elderly first and not teachers, but overall he's done a good job with a mammoth undertaking.

But he's a Trump protege and that's all I need to know about him.  He acted irresponsibly during Covid and didn't promote good prevention policy, telling people not to worry, and now has to do an about-face and tell people to get vaccinated.  No wonder his base is not getting vaccinated at high rates.

Of course it is.  The point of the article seems be lost on you all.  Likely because no one read it.

60 Minutes heavily edited what DeSantis had to say.

How is telling people to get vaccinated doing a "about face"?    Florida hasn't been any worse off covid wise,  and did less damage to their economy then most.  Getting vaccinated was always going to be part of the plan.

I'm in the Tampa area doing vaccinations.   Yes, people are definitely wanting their vaccine!

It might have been nice if for the point of discussion you discussed the article and what you thought the point was rather than the pointless "The liberal propagandist media at work..." unless that is your point that 60 minutes is liberal propagandist at work.  Yawn

But yes, I've already said I don't read right wing media any more than I do left wing media.

I'm not going to explain how you feel him pushing the vaccine is an about face again, but I gather you don't agree with that.  They did a good job of convincing people to ignore it and go about their business without masks, and they have to convince those same people to get it.  Yes, the demand is very high here in Tampa Bay and Florida, but in certain subsets, mostly Republicans and the religious right resistance is higher than other populations.  The source is the Tampa Bay Times for what I'm saying.

Right now Florida ranks 9th in rate of positivity so I can't say that we've done better than "most" states but that helps explain the high demand for the vaccine.  But our curves of ups and downs do mimic what is happened in the rest of the country and it wasn't a disaster like say the Dakota's, parts of Texas, California and even Alabama.  But it came close to scary in the Summer of 2020 during that surge after we reopened and stayed open.  (I was for the reopening)

But I can agree that our economy without restrictions is going to comeback in 2021 and from what I saw the beaches were doing well during Spring break here in St. Pete.  One source puts Florida at 20th most effective state which means 19 states did worse.  We ended the year with almost 8% unemployment for 2020.  Which isn't as bad as the Great Recession.  In February it was an even better 4.7% but 5.7% here where I live.

You never seem to ascribe the same way you feel about certain people might actually be the same way others feel!

Do you give credence to anything Bernie or Elizabeth Warren or Obama says? To us most republicans are liars and corrupt, meaning we won't listen because they will be lying! Even after Trump is convicted, he will have supporters. He's still bilking his supporters! You have Matt Gaetz and he will still have supporters, just like Marjorie Taylor Greene. You guys double down on lies and spew even bigger lies to cover your lies.

Surely you understand that Beerman?

Corporations have given more than $50 million to lawmakers who back voting restrictions, report says

Quote

AT&T has been the most prolific, donating over $800,000 since 2015 to authors of proposed restrictions, cosponsors of such measures, or those who voted in favor of the bills, the report found.

State legislators across the country who have pushed for new voting restrictions, and also seized on former President Donald Trump's baseless claims of election fraud, have reaped more than $50 million in corporate donations in recent years, according to a new report by Public Citizen, a Washington-based government watchdog group.

Telecom giant AT&T was the most prolific, donating over $800,000 since 2015 to authors of proposed restrictions, cosponsors of such measures, or those who voted in favor of the bills, the report found. Other top donors during the same period include Comcast, Philip Morris USA, UnitedHealth Group, Walmart, Verizon, General Motors and Pfizer. ...

...More than 120 companies detailed in the report previously said they would rethink their donations to members of Congress who, acting on the same falsehoods as the state lawmakers, objected to the certification of President Joe Biden's win following the deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters....

Among their findings:

  • Companies donated at least $50 million to lawmakers who supported voting restrictions, including $22 million in the 2020 campaign cycle.
  • At least 81 Fortune 100 companies have given a combined total of $7.7 million to supporters of the restrictions.
  • Nearly half of all Fortune 500 companies donated a combined total of $12.8 million to supporters of the restrictions.
  • About three-quarters of the companies that changed their donation policies after the U.S. Capitol attack have also given to lawmakers who supported voting rights restrictions.
  • More than 60 companies have given at least $100,000 to lawmakers who supported the restrictions.
  • Separately, industry groups and trade associations contributed an additional $36 million to the lawmakers, $16 million of which was given during the 2020 cycle.  ...

Will be interesting to see if Comcast, Verizon, GM do reconsider donations to voting restriction lawmakers ---like Senator Graham.

At the same time some big business has responded to their objections of the voter suppression laws.
