What are California's rules on taking the NCLEX a third time? NCLEX is a national exam and it doesn't matter that you took the first two tests in NV, you are still taking it for the third time according to California.

If you plan on practicing in Nevada, why not take the refresher course to help you pass the NCLEX?

I doubt Nevada will let you endorse if you refused to comply with their request to take a refresher course.

Endorsing and licensure in multiple states can be costly and time consuming. If you don't plan to practice in both states, invest in the refresher course and increase your odds of passing.

That would be try # 4 since OP failed in NV 3 times already.

OP, in reviewing your posts, this issue has been going on since July. You had been given the advice then to call the Nevada BON. To know 100% for sure, call them on Monday.

Thank you for answering my question. i actually called nevada BON and they told me if I'll apply with them by endorsement i dont have to take the refresher course but if i'll apply by examination i have to take the refresher course.

Hi nicole1122 it seems that were in the same boat. I failed nclex nevada twice, and I called them up this morning and they told me to take the med-surg review course. While I'm waiting for the 45 days to be over I am planning and preparing myself to take the med-surg course , which is only a 2 day course if you have it on your local area or you can get it online too just go to amsn.org

Before I plan to take it to another state too but it's a pain in the ass to process it again since I'm a foreign nurse and need to redo the paperworks coming from the Philippines. In my opinion it's not gonna hurt you taking the refresher course , it's just going to increase your chance of passing the nclex exam.

Hi @prnstat1 I'm going to take a review class that will help me to pass me the nclex test this time. But I called and told me that if I will pass the california license and endorse it to nevada I don't have to take the refresher course coz I already pass it.

@prnstat1 I just looked at the website (amsn.org) and i think the 2 day course you are talking about are for RN who wants to be certified as Medical Surgical Nurse (AMSRN). You need to be an RN with Med/Surg experience to take this exam

@chicagoboy yes, i just figured that out this morning. Nevada BON called me (finally after bugging them at their answering machines for 2 days) telling me to take this med-surg 2nd level course so they would make me eligible to take nclex rn for 3rd time . I'm a foreign graduate nurse and i worked few years in my own country, unfortunately i didn't make it last time i took the exam i run out of time and luck. So i'm stuck with this situation of taking the med-surg course or applied to other state just like nicole1122.

@nicole1122 I'm trying to call the az nursing schools here and i'm still trying to figure out this med-surg course. If things doesn't work out i will reapply my nclex on other state to save me from heartache of going through this. I know I almost had it the last time I took the exam and I worked at a hospital setting in for few years in my own country plus I worked here as a CNA in AZ while working on my nclex papers. They concluded that I need to take a med-surg course because I graduated my BSN 5 years ago. I still remember my med-surg, it's devastating to be told that I need to take it. I'm still weighing my options here.

Guys remember that failing the NCLEX three times means that you are not understanding something. It has been too long since you graduated for you to be a competent RN by NCLEX standards. Do the refresher course, it can only help you.

prnstat: something seems weird here. It doesn't make sense that you're being told to take a med-surg 2-day course as a review for the NCLEX......it DOES make sense that you'd take a 2-day med-surg course if you were looking to take a specialty certification IN med-surg.

Are you sure you have the correct review course information? As it stands now, it just doesn't look right.
