TOO Old??? 41 1/2 years old

Hello everyone,

I am soon to be 42 years old, April 2007. I am interested in becoming a Registered Nurse...Should I forget about that dream because of my age?

I will be 43 this year and considering nursing myself. Like you, I too thought I was too old but after speaking with nurses and calling schools, they say its never too late. I feel very hopeful. I say go for it.

You are never to old! I am 54 and in pre-nursing classes this semester. I just can't decide between LPN or RN. I have to make a decision soon though. Good luck and I know you can do it! I was told there was a 70 year old man that got his CNA through our school, then went through the LPN program and graduated! His wife was very ill and he did not want to put her in a nursing home, so he became an LPN and is taking care of her at home!! Now, that is determination and TRUE GRIT!!! Blessings to you!

I started PN school at 40, graduated and became an LPN at 41 and started working toward my RN about 3 weeks after graduation. I turned 42 a couple of weeks ago and work part time while going to school part time. You're never too old. A friend I went to school with turned 53 during school and he too is working on his RN.

Insofar as funding.... loans, loans, loans.... Fill out the FAFSA and you'll qualify for student loans even if you don't qualify for PELL etc. I have nothing except unsubsidized loans (even though when I started I had two children in college). We've never gotten any pell or other assistance that doesn't have to be repaid so I just have to grin and bear it and work through it. It can be done if you really want it.

I have never attended collage...I am so intimidated by even going inside the building. I have alot of hangups..

uh..oh. Your age is not a factor (though at 50, I notice my memory isn't what it used to be), but your going into an RN program cold turkey might be a hurdle. After you take anatomy/physiology, ask yourself if you really found it interesting. If you just squeeked by, you might make it, but it's going to be realllllllly hard. Best of luck.

This is wonderful. I'm interested in becoming a nurse, I'm 22 and sometimes I did think too that there was some kinda of age limit, I never considered that someone at 40 would start a new career but I like that you ladies don't let that stop you. It's very encouraging.

Absolutely not!! You will be rewarded in many facets if you become a nurse.You pretty much are gaurenteed(sp) a job wherever you go.And you get a sense of real pride when you say "I am a nurse!)Good luck and GO for it!! youll see there are a lot more people going back to school at our age.

this is very encouraging also to me however my nerves are getting to me just thinking about this journey ,i just found out i failed the workkeys math part and starting to doubt my self ( if i cant even pass this test how can i even think about going into nursing) however i have already scheduled my retest and going for refresher class soon ......... so thanks for this site;)
