Tired of Pre-Reqs

Published

To everyone that is not able to apply til later this year....

anyone tired of all the pre-reqs?

Argh. Sometimes I wake up and go, "geez I will never be in NS". I mean I kinda just started spring semester of 2011, its the end of the 3rd week. All I can think about is wow, I have about 13 weeks to go.

And after that 13 weeks, I am still not eligible for NS! I still need an important O-chem class I couldn't fit into this semester. They don't offer it in they don't offer it in the summer so I have to wait until this fall to take it. I have 2nd day registration at my school, so no point going somewhere else to take it.

So I don't know. Sometimes I get bummed out because I don't qualify to apply until the beginning of NEXT year.

Thanks to this state (CA) and its budget problems and the economy, a lot of programs shut down their spring admittance. So therefore if your done with everything in fall, you have to wait to get in THE NEXT fall. Ridiculous eh?

I guess I am just venting. Everyone applying and getting accepted its awesome but I look at it and go, dang I have a long way to go STILL. I am applying to BSN programs which do require more than ADN programs but where I live, employers (that are actually hiring...rarely) want BSN over ADNs....sad...

So I guess my question is, is there anyone out there like me?

how does that work???

here you apply to the college, you do your 2 years of pre reqs then you apply to the nursing program within the university..its all based on GPA..top 76 get in. The last 2 years are spent in the nursing program. graduate with a BSN at 21/22.

There are people getting into NS being (youngest here...20) and the BSN is 3 years, not 2 unless they do a summer start or trimester option.

I mean some schools in other states don't have ANY pre reqs. You apply right out of HS. (I don't think 18 y/o are mature enough for NS but I digress) Some schools have pre reqs but there isn't any pre reqs to pre reqs

for example

pre req into anatomy is gen bio

pre req into physio is gen bio, anatomy, and gen chem

pre req into micro is gen bio and gen chem

and pre req into o chem/biochem hybrid class is gen chem

some schools let you walk in and just take a&p w/o any bio experience

Kinda lame to me...

I spend 2 years doing pre reqs, while other people spend, what 1 or 2 semesters? blah

HA HA HA AND if you slack on your pre reqs that delays you being accepted into NS right away!!!!

They say its 2 years but that is bull

For some reason there is also a bunch or research and elective classes to take for your BSN along with "upper division" GEs that need to be taken as well. And so the programs here, after you do your 2 year pre reqs then you apply to the BSN program (unless you went straight to univeristy, which if you did congrats) then its 3 years after for your BSN

I don't know I really think its a lot of unnecessary classes for a BSN, and if they would actually hire ALL RN's equally, I would consider doing a RN-ADN, then do RN to BSN bridge but....that is not reality

Its pretty straight forward here. There is 2 years worth of pre reqs to take you can either take them at the university or at a community college..then you are admitted for 2 years worth of nursing class..then you leave with a BSN. There is only one BSN that I know of that is 5 years..2 for pre reqs 3 for nursing...all the others are 2yrs and 2yrs.

2 girls from my graduating class when straight to the university and graduated with a bsn 4 years later.

where i live its still 100% possible to end up with a bsn at 21 straight out of high school! Its crazy how different things are state to state!

That was not the point to my rant lol

Good for them?

lol

Good Luck

just pointing it out that its really not that rare to graduate at 21 with a BSN...maybe it is in your state but in mine its pretty common.

There are people getting into NS being (youngest here...20) and the BSN is 3 years, not 2 unless they do a summer start or trimester option.

yes im well aware that some classes require pre reqs LOL

maybe you should move ;)

LOL

well seriously there are people who go, "I just graduated high school, failed freshman bio and am taking microbiology and anatomy this semester and my local CC, HELP!"

So there are schools with no pre reqs to pre reqs

but besides the point

MOVE?

LOL

funny, I live in state where it is easier to get a license moving out than moving in...so going somewhere else is not an option.

Plus I am incrediably impatient and appartently pretty bored lol

I am almost done. In decemeber I will forever be done with pre reqs! (it has also taken me extra longer because I am statisfying ALL BSN program pre reqs, I do not take risks when it comes to schools lol)

So my only positive thought is hopefully, by some miracle or hell freezing over, will the economy be a tad bit better by the time I graduate.....IN 2015! LOL

I could not AGREE with you more my dear!! I have taken 4 pre-reqs so far and then found that a few of the schools that I applied to required me to take more! Honestly it it near impossible to meet ALL the requirements of all of the different nursing programs but I DID find a SOLUTION! :)

I know that you mentioned that you live in CA, but I have found a few schools in my area that are also nationwide that DO NOT require a ton of pre reqs, they make them part of the actual curriculum!!

Look into EVEREST, STRATFORD, ECPI, etc...those types of tech colleges base admissions more on the TEAS and/or HESI exam!!

Best of luck to you...I SO feel your pain!!!

PS...if you have already taken some classes you will be credited and not have to retake them once you start the program!

oh thanks for the help, but I dont do tech schools, they arent transferable and i havent heard good things about them.

as i said I am just impatient lol

thanks for the help and GOOD LUCK
