To everyone that is not able to apply til later this year....
anyone tired of all the pre-reqs?
Argh. Sometimes I wake up and go, "geez I will never be in NS". I mean I kinda just started spring semester of 2011, its the end of the 3rd week. All I can think about is wow, I have about 13 weeks to go.
And after that 13 weeks, I am still not eligible for NS! I still need an important O-chem class I couldn't fit into this semester. They don't offer it in they don't offer it in the summer so I have to wait until this fall to take it. I have 2nd day registration at my school, so no point going somewhere else to take it.
So I don't know. Sometimes I get bummed out because I don't qualify to apply until the beginning of NEXT year.
Thanks to this state (CA) and its budget problems and the economy, a lot of programs shut down their spring admittance. So therefore if your done with everything in fall, you have to wait to get in THE NEXT fall. Ridiculous eh?
I guess I am just venting. Everyone applying and getting accepted its awesome but I look at it and go, dang I have a long way to go STILL. I am applying to BSN programs which do require more than ADN programs but where I live, employers (that are actually hiring...rarely) want BSN over ADNs....sad...
So I guess my question is, is there anyone out there like me?

I hear ya.
I have a similar situation. I'm going for my ASN. Our acceptance is based on a point system. In my case I have all my pre-reqs done, I've taken the entrance exam, and I have a high gpa, but I might have to wait until next year as well.
My nursing school accepts students once a year. I don't have enough points because on top of all the pre-reqs, you have to take extra classes to be more competetive. Each extra class you take, you get more points.
I may have a slim chance of getting in this year, but I have already resigned to taking and spending another $1000 on those 'extra' classes. It really sucks to have to wait another year.
What if I lose my focus in 365 days? The only positive thing I can think of is maybe by the time I graduate the job situation may be a little better.
I guess that's what we have to do think positive and just know that there's a reason for the wait. So chin up beachbedhead and smile you're gonna be a nurse soon.
Yes....
You know when people ask you "aren't you in NS yet"? ...
....my reply "Not yet...."
Then they go "What have you been doing this whole time?"
....my reply "Um pre-reqs...."
Its so unbelievably frustrating.
Like you, I am taking 'extra classes' to get into a BSN program where as your taking 'extra classes' to get in too...
Although you may think you have a slim chance. I hope you get in!
And yes I hear ya about the whole 'focus' thing for another 365 days....UGH that is a LONG way from now. But what keeps me focused is, I will be in (eventually) and this o-chem class (wont be in progress if I apply for next fall, so it won't be calculated as a 'C' and screw my GPA up)
So I guess its good I won't be in as soon as I want to..
More time to save $$ and volunteer to stand out my application.
And like you said, who knows? Maybe the job market will be a LITTLE better this time around when we graduate!

How many classes do you need? At my school we need 11 pre-reqs.(for ADN)Think it is more like 12 now that they have added the bio proficiency test and if you arent up to speed in Chem and Math that is even more.
I just started the LPN program after taking 10 classes (some of them remedial)and really feel burnt out before I even got started in these Nursing classes. Now this is our first week and I am unmotivated to study, bored, sick and tired of constant studying, its such a struggle that feels like it will never end. I just feel like the pre-reqs sucked all the joy and life out of me.

Well I need the dumb o-chem class and (its not needed now but I will need a upper division critical thinking class BEFORE I start 1st semester NS) and I am going to do a math class (I did trig, they don't accept it, I did pre-calculus, got a C, took calculus 1&2 at a quarter system-university [i am applying to semester based schools]so that isn't accepted either) so I am just going to take college algebra to just refresh my math skills (and pump my GPA up) lol and i eventually need an intro to psychology
So see what I mean?
I am also taking pre-reqs to ALL BSN programs in the area. I am not risky enough to put all my eggs in one basket. So that is another reason I have so many classes to take and why its taking too long.
The NS requirements around here are ridiuculous. I took developmental psych; only 2 BSN programs take it, while the other takes it but not for admission purposes, they need intro psych for admissions. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Only 2/3 BSN programs require o-chem while the other wants general chem (which I took).
And all these BSN programs want you to apply the spring before you enter, so you NEED EVERYTHING done before you apply.
Just to my luck, the one school that lets you have 'ONE course in progress' isn't taking spring admissions anymore....Go figure...
So basically, all this crap and the fact that I have a year to go really discourage me...
--->Aw well at least your in! I know your burnt out from stuffing all of those pre-req classes just to get in that now your in your like....really all this too. Cheer up...it'll get better!
I mean sometimes I think golly, its harder to get into NS then med school....SERIOUSLY lol

You have it good my friend. For my CC's ADN program we need like eleventy thousand pre-req's. Started Fall 2010 and will not start NS until Fall 2012. I think it's funny how ADN is called a "two-year degree". It will take me 4 years to get my ADN.
I wont start NS til 2012 too!!! YAY FOR BOTH OF US! lol
its a long time from now!

Me too! The program at our school is LVN, then RN. I'll have my last co-req done in summer but since my last pre-req isn't done until the end of this semester, I couldn't apply for the current semester. I have to wait until Jan. I feel really good about it though, however, I'll apply to one other school that's within a reasonable distance. It's also only a once a year admission, which starts in Sept. but doesn't end until end of Jan. Won't find out until like April....next year! They had less pre-reqs but I don't have two points for honors and classes there, so I need every last co-req to have a reasonable chance, so had to wait until next year there too. So it will probably be summer '12 admission for me but also could be fall '12.
I just couldn't take the waiting around. I have like one online class for summer and a couple of others for the other school for fall. I had to get into something or I was going to go crazy, so I am signed up for CNA and trying to find a volunteer position. Thinking about taking a Spanish class in Jan. and really planning to throw myself into that while I wait...
Good luck to everyone.
Ann36...I get like now with reqs, burnt out. One day a week with no school does wonders. I always thought I couldn't do it but I cram a little extra in on the other days, so I can have just one day with nothing to clear my mind. It's usually Friday and I usually take the first half of Sunday for church.
