To everyone that is not able to apply til later this year....
anyone tired of all the pre-reqs?
Argh. Sometimes I wake up and go, "geez I will never be in NS". I mean I kinda just started spring semester of 2011, its the end of the 3rd week. All I can think about is wow, I have about 13 weeks to go.
And after that 13 weeks, I am still not eligible for NS! I still need an important O-chem class I couldn't fit into this semester. They don't offer it in they don't offer it in the summer so I have to wait until this fall to take it. I have 2nd day registration at my school, so no point going somewhere else to take it.
So I don't know. Sometimes I get bummed out because I don't qualify to apply until the beginning of NEXT year.
Thanks to this state (CA) and its budget problems and the economy, a lot of programs shut down their spring admittance. So therefore if your done with everything in fall, you have to wait to get in THE NEXT fall. Ridiculous eh?
I guess I am just venting. Everyone applying and getting accepted its awesome but I look at it and go, dang I have a long way to go STILL. I am applying to BSN programs which do require more than ADN programs but where I live, employers (that are actually hiring...rarely) want BSN over ADNs....sad...
So I guess my question is, is there anyone out there like me?
From your main post, it seems like this is only taking you a year? Hang in there, it took me two years to complete the prereqs for my BSN program (which is pretty typical for the course track). And that was the easy part!
I honestly think the amount of time depends....on your school and location
I am in CA, so our requirements are pretty high up there...
If you go to schools where no pre-reqs to pre-reqs (i.e. gen bio and gen chem are pre-req to micro) then you have it easier and faster
If your school has totally different and easy requirements (I have read on here that some schools in other states, you just apply right out of high school and your in the BSN program or the ADN program) then you have it faster and easier; where my schools you need a butt load of classes COMPLETED and apply a semester before to get into the NEXT one.
If you do not work fulltime (or have any outside responsibility, bills to pay, kids to take care of, etc) then you have it easier and faster
So when those 3 things are against me, yes it takes me longer than 2 years to do it.
2 years for you, good,
for me its been a battle to get into classes, complete then with the best grades all while working and paying rent and car payments...
So it has not been 1 year lol its been since I was 18, now 21 so 3 years.
So yea, we all can agree that 3 years...I am pretty much want to move on now lol.
YOU CAN DO IT!!!Just found out today.. I will be drawing blood by the beginning of next week after 8 hours of Lab.. SCARY!!!
Oh I will ace them!
Oh your first draw. How exciting! Lucky, at least your doing something related to healthcare!
I bet you will do awesome!
Keep me updated how ya did
lol I remember my first draw. I was trained at the teaching hospital I worked at and on my lab clinicals I went to the phlebotomy lab and had to do a couple of blood draws. My first draw went to yelling and screaming "OH JESUS! OH JESUS! You got me a STUDENT??!!! OH JESUS!"
After that one it got easier. You'll be fine :)
I have the opposite problem. I am sick of WORKING and I'm ready to start school. I found my job tedious and dull before and now I have NO motivation (other than the need to feed my kiddo and not be homeless) to do my work. I just want to study and get ready for NS in the Fall.
OMG!!!!!!!
I know how you feel!!!! I used to like my job a lot, after I got it. I got it last summer before I started core pre-reqs lol. So then I was like yay, I finally got a job again (I was "layed off") I was making good money, working like almost full time (6 hours for like 5-6 days/wk)
But now that I am so, SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO close to applying and getting into NS, and knowing that I am pretty much quitting when I get accepted....makes me not want to go or put any effort in.

That is hilarious.. and thank you.. I sure I hope I will be fine
I just hope that I don't have a little kid for my first draw.. that would make me even more nervous..
Our externship is a minimum of 120 hours and a minimum of 100 draws... so... it should be okay by the time I am done. I love my instructors this quarter..
Math is going to be interesting though.. our instructor is very nice, but she has quite an accent, which means I will have to pay EXTRA attention to make sure I get it all.
My psych instructor is AWESOME.. she is hilarious and her class is packed! I guess she is the most popular professor for psych classes, and I can already see why!

Lol, ill look into it!
As for the skills test, it isn't hard. I got certified last November.
Just perform it as you would at your clinicals.
I was super nervous, but just go in confident and you'll pass
