To everyone that is not able to apply til later this year....
anyone tired of all the pre-reqs?
Argh. Sometimes I wake up and go, "geez I will never be in NS". I mean I kinda just started spring semester of 2011, its the end of the 3rd week. All I can think about is wow, I have about 13 weeks to go.
And after that 13 weeks, I am still not eligible for NS! I still need an important O-chem class I couldn't fit into this semester. They don't offer it in they don't offer it in the summer so I have to wait until this fall to take it. I have 2nd day registration at my school, so no point going somewhere else to take it.
So I don't know. Sometimes I get bummed out because I don't qualify to apply until the beginning of NEXT year.
Thanks to this state (CA) and its budget problems and the economy, a lot of programs shut down their spring admittance. So therefore if your done with everything in fall, you have to wait to get in THE NEXT fall. Ridiculous eh?
I guess I am just venting. Everyone applying and getting accepted its awesome but I look at it and go, dang I have a long way to go STILL. I am applying to BSN programs which do require more than ADN programs but where I live, employers (that are actually hiring...rarely) want BSN over ADNs....sad...
So I guess my question is, is there anyone out there like me?
Oh my goodness!!!! The endless amount of pre-reqs....aahhh!! And every school wants something a little different. I'm stuck taking patho. Let me tell you, it's so horrible! I really can't wait until this long phase is over and nursing actually begins!
I know right. Nursing school requirements are dumb.
Pathophysio sounds fun! Lol. I'm taking regular physio. Blah its alright first test coming up. Everyone who has taken my teacher said the first exam is hard and everyone fails it.
Ya just what I need to hear! Lol
Yea he does his questions NCLEX style and puts MCAT questions on there. Good lord and the final is all critical thinking essay questions. Ya!
Well at least its awesome prep!
Yea it totally sucks!I'm at school Monday thru Thursday and I work Friday they Saturday. I never get a break
when spring break comes I ain't gonna study or nothing. Imma relax and party!
Whooo
You totally have the FULL PLATE thing going! Our spring break ends today... tomorrow it is back at it.
Last night I talked to my best friend who is doing her pre-reqs in MN.. I am in WA.. and she is almost done because of the way her program lets her take her pre-reqs.. there are not as many "pre-reqs" for the "pre-reqs" lol like there is here.
I think we just have to keep the goal in mind and get through the foundation classes and try to remember that all these classes WILL help us in nursing school.. at least that is what I keep telling myself.
I do have to say, I am so excited to start Phlebotomy. I feel like I finally get to actually DO something and not just read about it.
I figured it would be an excellent skill to have, especially since a good deal of the ER tech jobs around here like you to have it and your CNA.
Good luck on your Physio exam!!!

aw your spring break is over? that stinks, my "smart" school decided to put ours the week following easter
so when easter sunday comes (i have to work on easter as well) i have school the very next day!
as for phlebotomy, thats cool. i know a lot of people who do it as a job and have cool hours and make good $$
does your school offer it for regular tuition? no school around here does
phlebotomy special schools charge like $1000 to take it
when you start?
yes I keep telling myself that these classes will come in "handy" but i just want them over with!!!
and back to your previous post about hearing classmates say its their last class or they are waiting to hear back....i am so jealous! lol
i really need to find something to do with my time
LOL.. totally!
Yes, several of our CC offer Phlebotomy courses. It is a 9 month program but includes a 120 hour externship, where you get your 120 hours and over 100 draws to be able to sit for your national certification. There are other programs but they are more expensive, and don't require you to even have Med Term.. which to me is a little scary. It is regular tuition, but honestly, with the pre-reqs it pretty much comes to around 1000.00
That sucks that your spring break falls that way..
It really sucks you have to work on Easter... and I am sorry if I missed it, but what kind of work do you do now? I really want to work at the hospital I volunteer at, and I may even be doing my externship there, so fingers crossed.
Phlebs don't make really great $$ here, but it is okay. It is when you can combine the Phleb with the CNA to work in ER that you can make decent money while in school, so that is my ultimate goal.. plus I love the pace of the ER and think I would get great exposure to things there...
I have too many things occupying my time outside of school..lol.. that I had to simplify many things for this quarter... I have a horse, two boys (one is grown (21) and the other will be 16 in May), a husband working out of state, and a ton of work around our property to do lol, but it keeps me busy when I do not have my nose in a book studying!
I can't wait to take A&P and Micro.. how is Physiology?

Here is the same way for bsn program. One extra semester to *hopefully* get in. I'm applying everywhere ASAP, BSN or not.
And although my goal is to get my masters and become a nurse practicioner, ADN is the way to go.
Because I was thinking about it and for the MSN programs here you need a bachelors PLUS work experience, like 1-3 years.
So I do BSN route, get in by fall 2012, 3 year program, work at least a year then get into masters. That's a total of 5 years from now.
Where as if I do an ADN program get in spring 2012 do my 2 years, work while doing my 1 year RN-BSN and then I will not only have my bachelors but work experience as well. So that route gets to masters program in 3 years vs 5.
But that's all speculation especially getting a job after graduation. But it doesn't hurt to be positive. :) lol. I guess I am so bored with pre reqs that I think to far ahead sometimes.
Well lets just keep bumping this thread up. I like to see other peoples experiences with pre req to apply to getting in. And for the rest of the people who may just be starting their journey.
