Timeline for graduation, NCLEX, and 1st RN Job

Published

Hi! I was wondering what the timeline was for you to:

  • Graduate
  • Send in your application to BON and PearsonVue for the ATT
  • Get your authorization to test
  • Take the NCLEX (how soon did you schedule it?)
  • How long did you study before taking the NCLEX?
  • How many questions and how long did it take you?
  • When did you find out your NCLEX results, did you pass?
  • Start applying for jobs
  • Get hired for your first nursing job (and what was it?)
  • Start an RN-BSN program (if applicable)

For example:

1/15 - Started applying for new grad positions

4/5 - Interview for Peds Residency

5/13 - Graduated Nursing School

5/14 - Sent in application for ATT

5/17 - Job offer for Peds Residency

5/21 - Received ATT

6/1 - Took the NCLEX (75 questions in 1.5 hrs, studied for 4 weeks)

6/3 - Received quick results PASSED!

6/15 - Started Peds Residency

8/25 - RN-BSN program

Obviously, you don't have to answer all of my questions, although that would be cool and interesting to read! I love planning and I keep thinking about my final year of nursing school and all the busy, exciting, stressful things that will come along with finals, graduation, NCLEX, and starting my first RN job!

Thanks! :)

  • Send in your application to BON and PearsonVue for the ATT 2/2015 - This was the school's deadline. They turned in our applications as a batch, and the BON processes them and waits on the transcripts. I went ahead and registered for the NCLEX then because I still had money from taxes.
  • Start applying for jobs 3/2015 - I only applied to one job.
  • Get hired for your first nursing job (and what was it?) 4/2015 - NICU
  • Graduate 5/18/2015 - School hand delivered transcripts to the BON that morning.
  • Get your authorization to test 5/26/2015
  • Take the NCLEX 6/8/2015
  • How long did you study before taking the NCLEX? The whole time
  • How many questions and how long did it take you? Haven't taken it yet.
  • When did you find out your NCLEX results, did you pass? Same as previous, but it is common in my states for testers' names to appear on the BON's site the same/next day depending on what time they took the test.
  • Start an RN-BSN program (if applicable) I graduated from a BSN program.

How did you get in there without having a license yet?

How did you get in there without having a license yet?

It's very common to work as a graduate nurse right out of school where I live, so having a license isn't required to start looking for a job.

  • Graduate: MAY 1, 2015
  • Send in your application to BON and PearsonVue for the ATT: 1ST WEEK OF MARCH 2015
  • Get your authorization to test: MAY 6, 2015
  • Take the NCLEX (how soon did you schedule it?): JUNE 3, 2015, scheduled it as soon as I got the ATT
  • How long did you study before taking the NCLEX?: ABOUT 2 WEEKS TOTAL
  • How many questions and how long did it take you? 75 QUESTIONS, 33 SATA, 1 HOUR 45 MINS
  • When did you find out your NCLEX results, did you pass? JUNE 5, 2015; PASSED
  • Start applying for jobs: JANUARY 18, 2015
  • Get hired for your first nursing job (and what was it?) Interviewed 4/6/15, accepted position 4/22/15; New Grad Fellow CVIC, starts last week of June 2015
  • Start an RN-BSN program (if applicable): Not yet, planning on starting in August or October 2015

Just coming to finish up the questions now that I've passed the NCLEX and got my license.

How many questions and how long did it take you? -75 questions in a little less than an hour

When did you find out your NCLEX results, did you pass? -I walked out of the testing center at 3pm and my license was posted some time between 1pm and 2pm the next day (yes, I was checking hourly...)

Wow! Your state is FAST! That's really nice, I had to wait for Quick Results, but at least my state participates in Quick Results, I'm thankful for that. =)

Miiki, BSN, RN, congratulations on passing the NCLEX and getting your license! :)

Thank you!

Finishing up the questions since I also passed :)

How many questions and how long did it take you? 75 questions, 35 minutes (I don't suggest it, they put my results on hold for 25 hours to review the tape/my whiteboard to make sure I didn't have any advantage...)

When did you find out your NCLEX results, did you pass? I found out 2 days later because of that hold but most people in my new grad residency program have found out within about 24 hours on weekdays and 48 if they took it on a weekend.

I am in CA so no quick results for me, I know for a fact my school hasn't sent out transcripts yet (even though nursing is the priority) so I think it might be a while for me until my license posts. In the meantime I have been applying to some jobs, working, and enjoying life.

Here's my update!! Hope I don't jinx anything

4/16 sent in application/ paid fees

5/27 graduated and school sent grad verification (PA BON and from a PA school)

6/12 ATT (seemed like they were sent completely randomly because some of my classmates who put in applications a few weeks ago were sent ATT before me and I paid over a month ago)

6/16 interview for nurse residency

6/18 (because I'm crazy!) nclex
