You get pooped on by your patients all day, sometimes in every single sense of the word, the last thing you need is to be pooped on by management and supervisors.

It might have worked in her favor to ASK you instead of TELLING you. Geezzzzzzz.

This Sup is just another one who does not care about the "underlings". No one but her has a life outside of work. Hope you have a great weekend off.

I had a DON pull that on me once,she was laughing about the fact that she had forgotten about recaps for the month when I asked her what she was going to do she laughed again and said"I'm not doing anything ,you'll just have to do some OT to get them all done"I told her had plans for the weekend,like you did.My plans were just to take my shoes off,pop open a beer and chill,but they were my plans dam it and I wasn't giving them up 'cause she made a mistake.

I would have done exactly the same. It's poor management skills on her part to demand it and not ASK at this late hour. Good for you to think to ask if there was an emergency, it would have highlighted her apparent lack of planning (since she had no reply for you, it would appear that was the problem...).

When I was working in the hospital, NOC shift, we'd all get a chuckle (better to laugh than to cry) over the fact that not ONE of the supervisors were available to answer the phone/pages in the middle of the night.

Now, I'm not advocating calling for frivolous reasons, but if there was something so important, that would NOT wait until the tidy hour of 0700, and was protocol to notify the supervisory staff....it would have been nice if ANY of them would bother to answer!!!

hmmm, sounds like the time my nurse manager told me at 3p.m. the day b/f my day off that I had to be back at 8 a.m. for a mandatory meeting that he'd "just decided" to schedule!!!! You bend over backwards to accomodate THEM, come in w/short notice, change your plans to stay late or work extra when asked, plan your appts. after work or on your one precious day off & skip lunches & breaks & they just want MORE. Yet managers seem to come & go as they please, never having to change THEIR schedules or appts. It IS poor management skills-- part of being a good manager is being organized enough to plan ahead. I have been asked to change or forfeit my vacation to accomodate staffing, yet we can't change our vacation plans once requested. There is no consideration for seniority either. It does get old!! Poor morale & lack of professional respect trickles down, and doing this to the staff w/little regard for our lives is not being a team player.

Don't you just love these people? My NM has a doctorate in nursing, but most of the time she doesn't have a bit of sense and it's always her way or no way. One time I said to her, "Don't you feel like writing a book or something???" I just don't get how some people feel that they can try to walk all over you.

I don't think I would be there on Sunday...ESPECIALLY since she just walked off AFTER you told her you couldn't work it.

She asked, you told her, she never told you it was mandatory and required.

I think you should enjoy your Sunday.
