The abortion law builds on legislation passed in 2010 that represented a major shift for a traditionally Catholic country, transforming Spain into one of the most progressive countries in Europe on reproductive rights. Spain's constitutional court last week rejected a challenge by the right-wing Popular Party against allowing abortions in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.

The debate will be heated in Spain, I imagine, as the conservative opposition pushes back. My daughter had horrible menstrual pain during her adolescence and young adulthood.  I'm certain that she would have benefitted from that time.

I was answering another person's question that was unanswered for several days and her thinking was we were stumped,  It's fair as part of a discussion board to hear from you.  I answered your question, but confess I didn't read the entire post when you talked about a giraffe...

Many good points!

Except that the virus could mutate into something much worst than we have now.  The Spanish flu epidemic concluded with many deaths among young people in Milwaukee and Chicago.   Why would it become suddenly more lethal before it died out?  Will this happen with the Covid virus?  I listen to history.  Meanwhile, our prez is blathering on about transgender mice in his state of the disunion address.  I couldn't imagine how  his demented mind came up with the idea that the NIH was turning little male mice into little female mice.  So he translated "transgenetic" into "transgender".  Transgenetic mice are created for medical research.  I wonder if any mouse will have to die to trans Trump into something intelligent.

Really, it's OK.  It's unlikely anyone was hurt.  Lots more people are hurt because Americans identify as Christian or conservative when they really aren't Christian or conservative than by people who identify as turtles. Currently people are calling themselves conservative when they really are right wing authoritarians elevating fascist policies and agendas.

Yes, covid does mutate.  So far, listening to the science, the mutations aren't as lethal, even in the unvaccinated, but one can't predict the future.  Problem is that if it mutates into something more lethal will being boosted against another variant help?

I dug a little deeper and the CDC says perhaps.  So I guess you're making a fair point.

I'm still not sure young healthy adults that pass on the vaccine need to fear the future from covid.  Most of us have been exposed by now.

the vaccine is expected to work well against variants that are predominant now (for example, KP.3.1.1). It is also expected to work well against the variants that are increasing and likely to be predominant in the future, such as XEC or MC.1.

The Spanish Flu had a high mortality rate among young healthy adults.  I saw a clip from 2023 of Kennedy on the Joe Rogan podcast claiming that vaccine research was responsible for for the Spanish Flu (also blaming AIDS not on a virus but the gay lifestyle).  Flu vaccines didn't come out until the 1930's.

Forty-nine percent of Americans say that the country is headed off on the wrong track, 34% of say that the country is headed in the right direction and 16% don't know. When it comes to specific issues, a majority of Americans also believe that the national economy (53%) is off on the wrong track, as is their cost of living (64%). A plurality say that employment and jobs (44%) is also off on the wrong track. A majority of Americans say that corruption is off on the wrong track (53%). Americans are split on whether immigration policy is headed in the right direction (43%) or off on the wrong track (43%).

When it comes to specific issues, 39% of Americans approve of how President Donald Trump is handling the economy, 37% approve of how he is handling employment and jobs and international trade, and 32% approve of how he is handling the cost of living and inflation and rising prices. Americans are split on their approval of Trump's handling of immigration, with 47% approving and 44% disapproving.

Seventy-six percent of Americans agree that the very wealthy have too much influence on the government in general, and 71% agree the very wealthy have too much influence on the White House. Sixty-nine percent of Americans say the very wealthy are making money off their White House connections. Two-thirds of Americans say the American economy is rigged to advantage the rich and the powerful (67%).

Quote

Fifty-eight percent of Americans say they worry changes in the federal government could cause delays in services people in their community rely on, such as Social Security payments and student aid.

Just about a quarter of Americans (23%) say the president has the right to fire any federal employee who expresses disagreement with the administration's policies even if they are in non-political jobs with the government such as postal workers and other civilian workers.

Just two in five Americans (41%) say they support new tariffs or taxes on imported goods from other countries, and 68% say that new tariffs or taxes on goods from other countries motivate them to vote in the next election.

This is all probably just fake news for Trump and his supporters.

Did we just become a police state today?  It's very distressing to see that the police would not protect an NGO from being broken into and the police did nothing?  Wow.  It's happening even faster than I thought it would.

NPR covered it on their 5 minutes podcast this morning.   CNN and MSNBC have covered it.  Perhaps when Subee's post was made the story was just coming out is why you didn't see it on MSNBC and CNN.

I don't think it's a big story, just another agency DOGE is going after.

Noticeably absent in covering the story is Fox News.

Thank you.  Without any context it wasn't possible to find what story she was talking about.

You're correct, not a big story.
