I ran across this online and thought would post it here for us nursing students. I think it's very appropriate - I plan to print it on a notecard and hang it where I can see it daily for inspiration!
You stand at the beginning of a long, hard road, the likes of which you have never trod before. Others will fall by your side, unable to persist. They will try to pull you back and down with them. Do not give in. They will invent ways of distracting you or deterring you and disturbing you with their words. All are false. Only the dream in your heart will keep you going. Courage and patience are your swords. Use them wisely.

I like that.
This was my favorite: Though there is a storm coming, I will have no fear, for I am learning how to sail my own ship.

That makes fellow classmates sound like enemies. I have never encountered people that would pull me down or keep me from trying to succeed. Does becoming a nursing student turn you into a competitive jerk?

That's an awesome mantra. How true to nursing school it is.
Good luck to you!

I prefer "Sir, due to inability of mankind to produce a timepiece that can capture the true meaning of time and the ability of the magnetic field to pull gears slowly...I cannot truely answer your question, but I will state without fear of being very far off that it is x minutes past x hour in the year of our lord"....(response to What time is it?)

You'll be very amazed! Shockingly I've run across many people that are way too competitive failing to realize in this program your biggest competition is only yourself. People get funny about sharing notes, socializing with others, etc.
Btw, I like this mantra especially if your around a lot of negative people.

I can see being catty or whatever while trying to get in the program, but once you are in, you're all in the same boat . What's the point of dragging each other down?
LOL! Good question. I'm still trying to figure this out. I suppose people feel intimidated by others success in the program. I understand everyone wants to pass (esp with good grades) but I guess some people are just use to being the only one on top :)
I didn't interpret it as relating to one specific group, i.e. nursing students, more as society in general...unfortunately, there are a lot of people who have a hard time seeing others be successful. It was meaningful to me to read because I interpret it as saying "look inside yourself and be true to yourself." I don't know...it just made me feel good when I read it and thought I'd share. I by no means meant it as a "bash" to current or future nursing students!
