This is going to be my mantra for nursing school!

I ran across this online and thought would post it here for us nursing students. I think it's very appropriate - I plan to print it on a notecard and hang it where I can see it daily for inspiration!

You stand at the beginning of a long, hard road, the likes of which you have never trod before. Others will fall by your side, unable to persist. They will try to pull you back and down with them. Do not give in. They will invent ways of distracting you or deterring you and disturbing you with their words. All are false. Only the dream in your heart will keep you going. Courage and patience are your swords. Use them wisely.

Hi there. I thought your mantra was nice as well. We as nursing students and also in our everyday lives outside of school should remain positive. It's not an easy thing to do when we may feel we're being faced with adversity. I think it's good you've adopted something positive to say to yourself when you are in the midst of a stressful situation-like NS :).

I read a post last week or so, where another student wrote "failure is not an option." I have heard that said before and my husband even said that to me when I started nursing school. I pondered this saying and found myself overwhelmed and consumed with the thought of failing. I was stressing over failing and thought to myself although this is true I need to come up with a more possitive way to say this to myself... so my mantra for myself is "Success is the ONLY option!" My husband said he liked this one better. So all the best to you all. Be blessed!

I can see being catty or whatever while trying to get in the program, but once you are in, you're all in the same boat . What's the point of dragging each other down?

I agree that there is no point in negativity, but the reality is that it happens..in school and amongst friends..its a unique situation being in Nursing School and many will never get it..say you are going to school for accounting and you fail a core course, well, you just take it the next semester..maybe cram it in to get your degree in your target time, or get set back a semester..but in nursing school, you fail Nursing 101, there is no taking it the next semester..thats it, its over..thats a lot for other people to get. I am not putting anyone down, that was just an example, and thats the way it is.. I liked the mantra..think its a good one..My husband told me 4 years ago , while I was standing over a computer, typing an essay with one hand and holding a screaming baby(baby #4) saying that it was going to take me 5 years to get my RN..and he said" In 5 years you can be a nurse or wish you were, either way 5 years is coming" :redpinkhe

I agree with you! That's what people DON'T get. You can't just fail one nursing class and think you can pick it back up next semester. You fail one class, it sets you back an entire year. You fail two classes, you are KICKED OUT! Then you have to start all over and try to get into other nursing schools which are completely full and be put on the waiting lists, and not to mention, NONE of your nursing classes that you DID pass will transfer to said new nursing school.

People just don't understand that.

I agree with the mantra, and believe it or not, you will see who was REALLY down for you as you take this new journey. Since starting nursing school, I have lost quite of few acquintances, because I can't talk to them as much as I used to, or hang out as much. I have a goal and a focus and either you are down for the cause or you fall by the wayside. Sorry to be so blunt, but that's the way I see it.

Works for me.

thats ok, when I am done with school and do something special for my friends who have supported me and encouraged me, the doubters and friends who dropped out of sight will be sorry!!!
