This Blows Every Other ED Visit Out of the Water

A new all-time #1 has surfaced for me and my career and I'd like to share...

Young adult male presented to the ED last week with pain and swelling throughout various parts of his body. This kid injected multiple syringes of his boyfriend's semen into himself. The worst part? He was trying to get pregnant. Psych cleared him and he was admitted to the hospital. Mind=blown.

What would the Benedryl in the thighs do?

Besides giving the patient nasty abscesses, I have no idea! Not exactly a rational behavior to which I can apply reason. Lol

Poor guy. I hope you showed him a lot of compassion.

......wow....speechless.

This is certainly one I've never heard before. *my virgin ears* HA! Jk

WHAT!! psych CLEARED him, really. This guy needs some serious psych care and should have been baker act.

Wow, someone slept through biology class. No uterus = no where to grow a pregnancy

Even abstinence-only sex ed makes the point that it takes boy + girl. Where did this kid get the idea that injecting semen into his body will get him, a male, pregnant?

I think you should call psych back and tell them they screwed up.

Exactly. HOW did they clear him????

I doesn't sound like he was doing this out of a desire to hurt himself; he was doing it out of an abundance of ignorance. Being (incredibly) dumb--sorry, couldn't think of a better word--does not qualify someone for a psych admit. Although, I'm not quite sure I want this gentleman walking around in my neck of the woods. :whistling:

Even delusional doesn't ensure a psych hold... If they're not an imminent danger to themselves or others, or gravely disabled, they're not holdable.

With the dearth of resources, it takes precious little insight to be deemed "abled"

Update! A PA today told me that at one point he said 'I should have went with my original plan and tested it on the dog first.(!) I assume he wasn't enjoying the abscesses all over his body... This even furthers the shocking fact that psych cleared him.
