Along the lines of the first thread, "Things you would love to say to your nursing instructors" I thought this would be a great thread to start. I've since graduated LVN but there was one main thing I wanted to say to some students in my class.
Will you people in the back row please stop talking! I swear that today I can still hear their motormouths running! :chuckle
When I am in the RN bridge I will come back and post some more. I'm sure some of you have something to get off your chest. Come on and unload here! :)
I just found this thread and I'm so glad I did!
To my classmates: thank you for treating me as a peer most of the time. I know I am the same age as your parents, but I have never been made to feel "old".
Thank you for being comfortable enough with me to seek me out for advice, to know that I will always keep what you say confident and for including me in whatever is going on.
To those who have children: you are amazing! You still come to class, are prepared for exams and turn in assignments on time.
To the few: I know you don't like some of the professors but it doesn't mean they are not good at what they do. Open your ears and minds to what it being taught, then if you don't understand, go talk to the prof. in private. They will accommodate you. Reading and preparation are necessary components to passing nursing school.
Just because you have a personal dislike for someone in our class is no reason to talk badly about them or try to get them into trouble.
If someone doesn't make it to the next semester, please show some compassion. You have not walked in that person's shoes and gossiping about them only makes you less.
Thanks for letting me vent!
not to butt in but......
i pray that i don't see some of the same types of people in my nursing classes that i have to endure in my nutrition class this summer, not to mention my other pre-req's.
1. the instructor gives us her power points and all you have to do is highlight the material she "tells us is going to be on the exam" (and yes, she will say you need to know this for exam purposes several times), don't ask her to repeat every single thing she says when it is right in front of you.
2. just because you finish your test, do not start talking amongst yourselves while others are still testing. i am usually the first one to turn in my test and i don't start talking to distract others. i know how to sit quietly in my seat and to play a game on my pda/cell or read a book without sound to not disturb anyone else. for heaven's sake, have some courtesy. i know that most of you were not born in a barn despite how you act.
3. when the instructor requests you to be quiet, because others are still testing don't keep talking like she didn't even speak. see #2.
4. the big sign in the front of the classroom, that states turn off all cell phones during class, means turn them off, or at the very least turn off the ringer and vibrator. if you have a call that is that important, sit the phone on the desk and watch the display (and leave class if you have to talk). yes, i have a child, and know how to text message if needed without making any noise to disturb the whole class.
5. the reason you failed the lab practical is because you put as much time into studying as you did remembering to bring a pencil, a scantron, your book, a piece of paper to write notes on, etc. i don't mind helping you out by tutoring you, but you have to make an effort. yes, if you do make an effort, you can go from a 38 to a 98, if you make it happen. i saw it happen the last semester i tutored someone.
just some of my annoyances, and i haven't even made it ns classes yet. i was hoping that it would be better in ns because it is so hard to get in, but i am already disillusioned due to the ignorance that followed orientation.
Welcome to nursing school, if you aren't willing to do the work, then leave.
I don't know who your pre-req professors were, but it seems that they did you a real disservice by spoon feeding you EXACTLY what's going to be on the exams. I see why you expect our NS professors to do the same.
If the professor asks if you have any questions, and you just sit there staring into space, then don't complain later that she is not helpful and you don't understand anything. And you DEFINITELY have no right to complain if all you did was talk to your classmate throughout the lecture.
If a professor tells you to read something and it shows up on the exam, don't be surprised.
"We didn't go over this in class" doesn't work here. If it was in the assigned reading, it has a chance of being on the exam.
"There are too many chapters to read!!!" Did you even look at the book? Those chapters total about 20 pages. Stop whining.
"I don't know how to solve this med math problem". Did you read the book for the explanation? No? Then you are complaining because......?
What? you want me to explain how to do the assignment when you are sitting there HOLDING the directions in your hand? Did you bother reading the directions? No? Sigh!
I understand that you learned how to to these "simple" skills already. So did I, but instead of sitting there like you are better than everyone, and constantly saying "this is not how I learned it", why don't you join me in helping our classmates with doing the skills they are having trouble with.
You are sitting in the front row, with your cell phone on your lap and you don't think the professor can see you texting?????? Oh boy!
Ahhhh...let's vent.
1. Don't get mad when someone does well. They probably earned it.
2. This isn't high school, let's act like professionals.....enough said here.
3. Gossiping about others only makes you look like bad....refer back to #2.
4. Don't complain about the workload...it is nursing school afterall!
1) I'm sorry that you feel that I should be happy with an 88% on my exam while you barely passed. I'm also sorry that I studied twice as long as you did.
2) I'm sorry that I like to add value to the lecture by participating and sharing previous experiences. And I'm sorry that you don't have much to contribute.
3) I'm sorry that I won't join your group that works together on online individual exams. Remember I'm doing very well so what would be the point?
4) I'm sorry that you think that being smart, confident, and being well prepared is just me being cocky. Maybe I should try harder to be more like you.
5) I'm sorry that you can't borrow my flashcards the day before the exam. I am also sorry that it took me 6 hours to prepare all 150 cards and you didn't help me write out any of them.
6)I'm sorry that you think that I am a know it all because I actually study until the library closes every night! Maybe someday I'll be your supervisor.
1) If you don't know what medications you have just put into your own body why have you been giving them to patients?
2)Thank Crunchie its friday
3) Thank god you're here wouldn't have survived the day without the heads up
4)Just becuase i sit at the back doesnt mean i talk, i just get claustrophobic and like the door, im sick of the talkers too!
5)All your group work was all redone at 4am by the rest of us because we weren't failing on your behalf
