ESI Resource Classification
Hello All, I am trying to find a list of how ESI resources are grouped/classified. For instance CT and X-ray are 2 different resources, all labs are 1 resource and CT and MRI are 2 different resources, is an EKG considered its own resource or is it included with say radiology (an x-ray and ekg = 1 resource or 2 resources? Is an US its own resource or included with radiology, etc.? I have searched everywhere and cannot seem to find a list showing how resources are grouped. Thanks!

Focused Assessments
Are there any sites or books to help with focused assessments? Like what should be included in your focused assessment for certain conditions? Thanks, KC

Stethoscope Reccomendations?
I am still in nursing school, but I have a Littman Cardiology III. I purchased it from steeles.com because they engrave the diaphragm. Fourteen characters or less, my whole name and middle initial fit on mine. http://www.steeles.com/catalog/engraving.html

Calling All LSC-NH 1172 Survivors
well, i have survived my first nursing class, prep for basic care. i think we all stressed entirely too much over this class, we were making things harder than necessary. i am so relieved it is over, but the nerves have already kicked in for what is to come. starting august 25th, the "real" nursing classes start and all the fun begins. found out that we will be going basically from 8 am until 4:30 everyday for the first three weeks. didn't see that one coming, so now i am trying to scramble to get all my bases covered. anyone else out there feeling nervous about what their lives are "fixing" to be like? are you working? full time or part time? or able to do the school only thing? anyone want to start a study group for on campus or close to north harris?

Here is a crazy question
for me it all depends on the amount of books i need to carry for the day. i have a rolling bag that i use for days that i have multiple classes and textbooks that must be hauled. also used if i have to take my laptop with books because it is just too heavy for a sling, back pack or tote. i also have a backpack (2 depending on day) that i would use when i only had one class but had to carry textbooks and lab books. when i had my art class i carried a messenger bag to hold my drawing pad and supplies. for my last summer class i didn't have to carry a text book so i would just put my binder in my purse. yes, i have a large purse. i carry a large calendar and other stuff needed for school in it (drink, snacks, etc), so it made sense just to get a large purse instead of juggling. i also use a couple of those free-bee clinique make up bags for my pens, highlighters, post-its, etc. for me it was less about looking cool than saving my back, those textbooks can cause all sorts of back/shoulder pains. :sasq: you should not want to kill people at the end of the day because you are frustrated your back and/or shoulder(s) feel like they are going to fall off. :smackingf

Hrsa 08-09 Nursing Scholarship
this is the reason i did not apply for this scholarship; i definitely do not want to work in any of the locations available in my area.

Investing In A Good Stethoscope
i purchased a littman cardio iii from steeles.com, the littman because i want every advantage to help with nursing school and steeles.com because they will engrave the diaphragm to help prevent it from walking. actually was able to fit my full name with middle initial. i also purchased a dog tag online for it and the engraved littman tag. plus, it is in plum, so might be able to hold onto it. hopefully with all this it will not walk.

How to put my name on my stethoscope?
i purchased mine from steeles.com already engraved with my name. i have a littman name tag that i am going to put on it as soon as it comes back from being engraved. i also purchased a dog tag online to attach to the tubing....talk about overkill, but i don't want it to walk! i looked at all the engraving options at stethoscopes.com and they look really amazing, i may have to add to my steth later.

Just got my Littmann Master Cardiology Stethoscope..
I asked at the local engraving place and they basically said they would not do it, so I purchased mine from steeles.com and they engraved it for me. Looks great too!

what supplies are needed for Lonestar College NH?
We should not need any supplies for the 28th, according to the information I have been given. Also, uniforms will not be needed until about 2 weeks after the start of August 25th classes. As far as the books for the 1st semester, if you want, pm me your email address and I will send you a list of the books, I was told were needed for the first semester.

Things you would love to say to your fellow nursing students!
not to butt in but...... i pray that i don't see some of the same types of people in my nursing classes that i have to endure in my nutrition class this summer, not to mention my other pre-req's. 1. the instructor gives us her power points and all you have to do is highlight the material she "tells us is going to be on the exam" (and yes, she will say you need to know this for exam purposes several times), don't ask her to repeat every single thing she says when it is right in front of you. 2. just because you finish your test, do not start talking amongst yourselves while others are still testing. i am usually the first one to turn in my test and i don't start talking to distract others. i know how to sit quietly in my seat and to play a game on my pda/cell or read a book without sound to not disturb anyone else. for heaven's sake, have some courtesy. i know that most of you were not born in a barn despite how you act. 3. when the instructor requests you to be quiet, because others are still testing don't keep talking like she didn't even speak. see #2. 4. the big sign in the front of the classroom, that states turn off all cell phones during class, means turn them off, or at the very least turn off the ringer and vibrator. if you have a call that is that important, sit the phone on the desk and watch the display (and leave class if you have to talk). yes, i have a child, and know how to text message if needed without making any noise to disturb the whole class. 5. the reason you failed the lab practical is because you put as much time into studying as you did remembering to bring a pencil, a scantron, your book, a piece of paper to write notes on, etc. i don't mind helping you out by tutoring you, but you have to make an effort. yes, if you do make an effort, you can go from a 38 to a 98, if you make it happen. i saw it happen the last semester i tutored someone. just some of my annoyances, and i haven't even made it ns classes yet. i was hoping that it would be better in ns because it is so hard to get in, but i am already disillusioned due to the ignorance that followed orientation.
