  1. to me this thread sounds racial, being a nurse & being racial does not mix. grow up. In my case I would divorce & move on.
  2. I got in at North Harris with 11.5 points
  3. I work for Davita doing dialysis in Houston, TX. had been a dialysis tech for 16 years, currently in the RN program. Davita is changing their policy in august that LVNs cannot be IN CHARGE anymore. Currently LVNs charge, pass medication, and do direct patient care. LVNs will be doing patient care only. It is just sad that LVNs have to go through this drama because some LVNs love to be in charge. Also many of the Houston Medical Center hospitals are not hiring or letting go of LVNs, for example, MD Anderson Cancer Hospital and many others. :-(
  4. I'm originally from Brownsville, TX. living in houston, tx. and currently attending nursing school. I will keep my eyes open if disater hits in those towns, so I can go out there and help out in whatever I can. My prayers are for the RGV.
  5. my friend got in with 10.5 pts. @ Tomball College last year. At 11 pts. it is still competative. I would retake a science class for a better score if you scored lower than an A. good luck.
  6. Mody, thanks for your input. Do you know what kind of BP cuff was required? electronic or manual? thanks.
  7. Want to start buying supplies ahead of time before starting nursing school at North Harris College this fall, since I pay school myself I dont want to wait for the last minute with financial stress. What are the supplies needed for clinical? for example, google, light pens, stethscope/which one? PDA? surgical scissors? a watch? any advices will be greatly appreciated. thanks.
  8. thanks methylene for the info, you are right, it could mean more stress for me studying for the LNV exam while doing the 3rd semester of nursing school. What I mentioned that "we do the LVN job already" and the part where you said about "the LAW", let me explain, what I meant was that the LVN takes care and does dialysis for 2 patients only, the RN gives medication and us tech take care of 4 patients at one time. when I said is less work being an LVN at our dialysis clinic I meant it, us techs chart, give some meds as LVN, so LVN are treated like techs not techs like LVNs but with a lighter patient load. But weighing my options I will probably just concentrate on the RN, I am just LOOKING at my options.
  9. If I become an LVN along the way to becoming an RN will work wonders for me! I work at a dialysis center where I do an LVN job plus my tech job already except I get paid like a tech. As an LVN I will be doing way less work, choosing my hours, respect, and of course more money. That means less stress for me while finishing the RN program! thanks Curliegirl for the info.
  10. Curlygirlie, how far are you in the nursing program? do you know somebody who went that route?
  11. NH, would like to know if you can take summer LVN course and still continue the program? thanks.
  12. Will start nursing program in the fall 2008. Question: In the program curriculum say that you can become an LVN in the middle of the RN program, how does that work? do you have to really exit the program? can you take that summer session lvn & continue on finishing the RN program? thanks.
  13. I will be 37 and will graduate in 2010
  14. I was accepted in the program already, and true we are not allowed to register until july 1st. but i was wondering what rnsg 1172 was all about.
  15. Have anybody taken rnsg 1172 "preparation for basic care"? just got accepted into the North Harris College and was wondering what was cover/learned in this class. any tips? study ways? any advices will be greatly appreciated, thanks.
