Years ago , I worked at the community hospital in our town, mostly nights. Once I clocked in , went to report , and heard the fascinating story of a co-worker having called in , yet again. The DON was unable to find a replacement at home , so, learning that one nurse was out on a date , found out the date' s name from the nurse's mother , and actually got the police in our small town to find the guy's car at the restaurant , go in and tell the nurse that she was needed at work. STILL takes the cake.

So did she leave the date and go in to work????? C'mon, ya gotta tell us!!

Sounds like you are appreciated, cared for, loved, and respected. Soooo, where is it you work again? Sooo rare to find nice people this day and age. Although, I have to admit, I work with pretty great people too.

You are home from work today and you and your SO are having a lovely, relaxing time together when suddenly, the doorbell rings. You go to the door. A policeman is there. You open the door and he informs you that your co-workers called him to check on you because you were a no-call, no-show for your shift today!
It is exactly 1 ½ hours into your shift. You check and sure enough, there are messages on your phone from work. You apparently did not get the latest version of schedule changes.
How would you feel?

I would be like Holy Cannoli! WAY overreacting. Altho I hear on the news sometimes that that is the first clue that someone has "gone missing" - someone is a no show who is ordinarily very responsible, so they call the police and find the person has indeed disappeared.

Embarrassing to say the least - but I'm sure they were just concerned about you!

I guess you'd have to know our little town to really get the full picture ; goofiness is just in the water , I think. By the way, a little while later a new company took over management and fired nearly the entire staff , including the DON. I love karma.

LOL, I love this post! It happened to me also. Later my co-workers, house super and I had a great laugh. They said that's what I get for having a great work ethic, never missing work, and never being late. I'm sure all the neighbors wondered. Our town has about 610 people. We had 611, but our resident drug dealer was dead of an overdose within 24 hours of getting his first disability check. Again, your taxpaying dollars at work! Off the subject, sorry!

Happened to me one time when I was on call for surgery. My kids were 2 and 4 yrs old at the time. Seems one of them knocked the phone just ajar enough that the operator could not get through. It was 2:30 a.m. when the STATE TROOPERS arrived at my neighborhood with blue lights flashing and sirens blazing!! They pounded on the door repeatedly and yelled "The hospital needs you NOW!" I had no idea what was going on until I checked the phone beside the bed and found it knocked a little off the hook! Needless to say, I had to change my underwear!! :scrm:

Wow Angie!

Many many years ago when I was a very young nurse, I was on call 3-11 for med/surg and was home alone and it started to snow unexpectedly and it continued to snow and then snow some more. I purposely took my phone off of the hook. I figured I could say my phone was out of order.

I was scared to death to drive in the snow in my little Datsun B-210 which was rear wheel drive and we had probably 6" of snow.

Around 8pm there was a knock on the door and it was a co-worker who came to get me with her big 4-wheel drive truck. What could I say? I got dressed and went. I didn't mind since I was safely transported to and from work.

They had called the operator from work who told them my line was out of order...whew! I never did anything like that again.
