The World Health Organization (WHO) said there is "no evidence" that survivors of COVID-19 cannot be reinfected with the virus. In a statement Saturday morning, WHO warned that antibodies may not adequately protect survivors, leaving them vulnerable to a second coronavirus infection.

The warning came as several countries, including the United States, are considering allowing people who have recovered to carry "immunity passports" or "risk-free certificates." That documentation would allow survivors to return to work and other activities under the assumption that they are immune from the virus. ...

WHO: "Immunity passports" in the context of COVID-19

Quote

WHO has published guidance on adjusting public health and social measures for the next phase of the COVID-19 response.1 Some governments have suggested that the detection of antibodies to the SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, could serve as the basis for an “immunity passport” or “risk-free certificate” that would enable individuals to travel or to return to work assuming that they are protected against re-infection. There is currently no evidence that people who have recovered from COVID-19 and have antibodies are protected from a second infection....

And so it's best to just stick with the evidence, rather than broadly characterizing people or ideas because you don't agree. Whether or not you agree, the political decisions and leadership during a national crisis matter. Governance matters. It can be the difference between life and death.

The available evidence doesn't support the notion that the POTUS got terrible information and that resulted in his comparatively terrible decision making. The current evidence tells a much different story. Trump's words and actions can be compared to those of other world leaders having gotten similar information. The USA is the leader in disease and death now...

He got direct data dumps from Americans from the CDC working from WHO as far back and November

I'm wondering at this, as WHO and CDC did not report known cases until late Dec or early Jan. I asked my MD buddy at local county health dept, he couldn't find anything earlier than that either.

I do believe it did exist earlier as me and hubby, a few clinic staff and their spouses (but curiously no kiddos) were deathly ill around that time, with exact symptoms, all tested negative for flu and strep. Our respective Drs told us to treat like any virus, and to follow up as needed. And none of us had heard of this virus at that time (Nov) either. Just makes it curious

ETA: we had a visiting patient who had come from visiting China (unsure of exact province) around that time, they were on their way back to CA, visiting relatives here first. Me and those 4 staff members have kinda tossed the "maybe" idea around

As stated in a previous thread when members were going at each other one-on-one ...

  1. Members have the choice to place posters on ignore
  2. Please debate the topic. DO NOT quote an individual in order to make it a one-on-one debate
  3. And, above all, please be respectful

If members continue to quote a post only to dissect it piece-by-piece and say, "you this and you that", thus making it a one-on-one debate ... it will not end well.

Please just debate the topic ... not each other.

Thank you.

And there is no evidence COVID recovered patients can be reinfected. To the best of my knowledge.

This Fauci guy was saying not even two weeks ago that Corona survivors almost certainly have at least short-term immunity.

Then again, the Surgeon General Jerome Adams was saying last month there's no need to mask. And now not only did he pull a 180 and say "Okay, best to wear masks", but in some cities it's becoming a requirement out in public. Houston Judge Lena Hidalgo, a twentysomething with no legal or medical qualifications, is now mandating we all wear masks in public or else face a $1000 fine. (Thankfully the Houston Police Department is saying they aren't going to issue citations).

I quit listening to these so-called public health experts and politicians on how to keep me safe from Corona.

However, there have been reports of patients testing negative and then testing positive later.

"We are aware of these reports of individuals who have tested negative for COVID-19 using PCR (polymerase chain reaction) testing and then after some days testing positive again," a WHO spokesperson told Reuters.

As a previous poster noted, there is so little that we know about this virus. Unfortunately, China may know something, but their government is not always the most forthcoming with information. It's sad in times like this

Maybe it's a latent-dormant thing, like chickenpox and shingles. Who knows!

"This Fauci guy" is a trustworthy and credible scientist and physician ...

People always have the option of getting their facts from the President or Limbaugh, I suppose. It is evident when people have stopped listening to the health experts.

That "Fauci guy" biography: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Fauci

Excerpt:

Anthony Stephen Fauci ( /ˈfaʊtʃi/; born December 24, 1940) is an American physician and immunologist who has served as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) since 1984. Since January 2020, he has been one of the lead members of the Trump Administration's White House Coronavirus Task Force addressing the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic in the United States. Fauci is widely seen to be one of the most trusted medical figures in the country.[1][2]

Fauci is widely recognized as one of the world's leading experts on infectious diseases.[3][4] As a physician with the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Fauci has served American public health in various capacities for over 50 years, and has been an advisor to every U.S. president since Ronald Reagan.[3] He has made contributions to HIV/AIDS research and other immunodeficiencies, both as a scientist and as the head of the NIAID at the NIH.

The medical community of China, with all their whopping 3 month advantage, has actually been quite cooperative in publishing and sharing their medical findings ranging from CT studies of patients to emerging evidence of re-infection or latency. If the government hasn't , it's probably because they, along with our good friend Uncle Vlad of the USSR/Russia, among other nations are in a competition for producing a vaccine. Whomever gets the patents on it after all has a gold mine. Always a bear when politics gets in the way of progress, amiright.
