There was a full moon last night. Can you usually tell when you're at work?

Is it true that the hospitals get a little nuts on the full moon, or is that just something that television uses for drama? Have you experienced crazy shifts on the full moon?

No more craziness here on full moon nights than on other nights. It is always crazy.

Ran our butts off all night ... and one of our post Post Op Pts went wacko running down the hall pulling his IV pole, his buns flapping in the wind, and smacking nurses out of his way... took 6 security guards to settle him down! :rotfl:

I used to be a 911 operator and some of the craziest calls came in during full moons. Anytime there was a full moon we knew we were in for quite a night. :uhoh3:

I think things definitely go a little crazy during a full moon.

I definately did this time. I went outside to smoke in an employee restricted cordoned off area at about 10 am. A few minutes later some guy with a baby in his arms was trying to get in the area. After a few unsuccessful attempts he gave up, but not before screaming "I f%cking hate white people!!!!"

Later in the day I went out to that same area again. There was a man standing a couple feet away from me chain smoking, and having an adamant conversation with a group of people. However, there was noone else there!!!! :uhoh3: Just bizarre. I thought to myself its high time to crawl back under my rock and hide!!

Oh yah. Had one LOL trying to kill us all for not letting her sleep when she needed O2 applied. Sats were 87% on room air. I tried everything to get her cooperation. I kept telling her, "This will help you breathe."

Her response?

"I don't WANT to breathe!" (punch, hit, punch)

In that case, she picked the wrong hospital to come to, I muttered as we applied wrist restraints, then the O2.

In the morning at 0700, it was like someone turned off her "crazy" switch. She was lucid, responsive, and cute as a button--and the day shifters were looking at me like I was the nutso. :rotfl:

Full moon all right.

I work on a busy surgical floor, and it was crazy yesterday! I had a 20-something-year-old male who got frisky with me when I bent over him, an older lady who was talking to people in her room (even though no one was there), and a young male with a head injury who had a lot of explaining to do to girlfriend #1 when girlfriend #2 showed up. Security had to be called. Oh, yeah I could tell it was a full moon! LOL

We call 'em "granola nights"........that's cuz all the fruits and the nuts and the flakes (not to mention the vegetables) are out creating merry hell for everyone else!!

When I worked nights we always knew when there was a full moon. Now that I work days I notice the beautiful moon at night, but none of the craziness. I LOVE my new job!!!

I work in the psych field. We definitely get more admits into the hospital during a full (and new) moon. By the way, there's been research done on this, and the research says there's not much correlation between phase of the moon and such things...but I don't believe it!

I would definitely have to agree that there is more craziness during the full moon and it's just not the full moon it's the few days leading up to it as well. 1. had a guy tell me he had bugs crawling all over his overhead traction (completly lucid the second night I took care of him, no bugs). 2. Had another guy that refused to stay in bed, kept trying to eat through his restraints, posey belt and bilateral wrists and did keep getting out of them. Oh yeah it gets a little crazy :chuckle :chuckle
