  1. Most of our post op ortho pts come back with either ambien or restoril ordered prn. As a standing rule we don't usually give them to anyone over the age over 60 for the very reasons you mention. I don't know how many times they have gotten confused and almost gotten hurt because of those stupid pills. We even hesitate to give them when the patient regularly takes them at home. If we do give a sleep med it tends to be Benadryl not as many side effects, and for some reason tylenol works as well for helping them to sleep. Don't ask me why but it does. I hope that this somewhat answers your questions. :)

  5. Our hospital is also kind of the same as everyone has been describing. We get six call offs in a six month period any more and you go into a disciplanary action that means you can lose your bonus as well as your raise.
  6. I just use a dark sheet over the window now, but used to use aluminum foil and it worked great was pitch black in my room except my glow in the dark stars (man I miss those!). :imbar
  7. When you walk in for your shift and the first patient you see is someone trying to "eat" through their restraints!! Can you say Full Moon! :chuckle

  11. Greetings and welcome to allnurses. Unfortunately there are those types of managers all around. Gratefully I have a manager that isn't like that. She sticks up for the nurses when patient accusations are unsubstaintiated?, but she can be tough with her employees when she needs to be.
  12. Greetings and welcome to allnurses! :Melody:
  13. You know it's gonna be a bad night when you have 4 codes called within the first two hours of your shift!!!
