There was a full moon last night. Can you usually tell when you're at work?

Is it true that the hospitals get a little nuts on the full moon, or is that just something that television uses for drama? Have you experienced crazy shifts on the full moon?

I am a firm believer in the full moon nights from hell. It's always held true for me except for one Halloween night years ago, although I did see one REAL Halloween candidate that night. :uhoh3:

Anyways, I didn't work on the night of the recent full moon, however on that night one niece had her car taken and another niece ran away from home and I picked her up at around 24:15. It doesn't just affect work, apparently.

I work in the psych field. We definitely get more admits into the hospital during a full (and new) moon. By the way, there's been research done on this, and the research says there's not much correlation between phase of the moon and such things...but I don't believe it!

I back you up on this....and I just may be sending you some of my residents! I swear that 2 days before, and 2 days after, most of my LTC'ers are "howling".

Just tonite, one of our Alzheimer with dementia types kept yelling for eye drops, stumbling head first into anything/everything, wouldn't stay in bed, and just causing all sorts of mayhem. Ativan finally kicked in at 11:30 pm.....and it took all shift to work! Last I saw, he was sleeping in a geri-chair, with a pillow and sheet...tray off....at my office. Go figure! :p

I've heard that too and have come to the conclusion that those studies aren't done in medical settings, i.e. ED, psych units, and L&D. The nurses at our hospital definintely see a correlation between full moons and deliveries. ;)

Oh yah. Had one LOL trying to kill us all for not letting her sleep when she needed O2 applied. Sats were 87% on room air. I tried everything to get her cooperation. I kept telling her, "This will help you breathe."

Her response?

"I don't WANT to breathe!" (punch, hit, punch)

In that case, she picked the wrong hospital to come to, I muttered as we applied wrist restraints, then the O2.

In the morning at 0700, it was like someone turned off her "crazy" switch. She was lucid, responsive, and cute as a button--and the day shifters were looking at me like I was the nutso. :rotfl:

Full moon all right.

Not to change the subject, I LOVE YOUR SCREEN NAME! LMAO! :rotfl:

OK. Back to thread.:imbar

I worked LTC in a locked unit for Alzheimer/dementia patients. You never had to check the calendar for the moon! There is a total display of different behaviors, including streaking. It is an adventure in the unbelievable.:uhoh3:

I don't think more deliveries always occur during full moons but I do believe we see a wierder calliber of patients/family. I don't know why....
