I confess to back pedaling into Trump territory when I wanted to leave discussions about him in the garbage can. My thread on the read-only break room site has 9,600 replies so I thought I'd bring up a new one.
He's not going away.
Haberman's book is out based on interviews. I won't read it, but the excerpts are interesting. Especially what he says about McConnell, a description that's against the Terms of Service here, but I actually don't disagree with. LOL
Quote“At one point, Trump made a candid admission that was as jarring as it was ultimately unsurprising. ‘The question I get asked more than any other question: “If you had it to do again, would you have done it?”’Trump said of running for president. ‘The answer is, yeah, I think so. Because here’s the way I look at it. I have so many rich friends and nobody knows who they are.’ … Reflecting on the meaning of having been president of the United States, his first impulse was not to mention public service, or what he felt he’d accomplished, only that it appeared to be a vehicle for fame, and that many experiences were only worth having if someone else envied them.”

QuoteThe United States has asked Denmark and other European nations if they can export eggs as Americans face surging egg prices, the Nordic country's egg association said on Friday.
The request from the US Department of Agriculture coincides with a raft of new US tariffs on countries, including in Europe, and the threat of more.
Hahaha
QuoteUS wholesale egg prices are shattering records, due to factors including an outbreak of bird flu.
Trump promised to lower egg prices on his first day in office, but prices increased 59% on a year-on-year basis in February, the first full month of his administration.
Oops.
Too bad we can't import eggs from our closest allies and agricultural import/ export partners. I bet Trump assumes that Denmark doesn't really mind his stupid comments about taking control of Greenland for international security and they'll give him a really good deal of eggs.
QuoteWe're still waiting to get more guidance from Washington on next steps, but do you have an estimate of the number of eggs that could be supplied to the United States (assuming they meet all the import requirements),” a follow-up letter to the Danish Egg Association in early March said.
"Washington is trying to get an estimate of the amount they could feasibly source,” said the letter, received last week.
The Danish Egg Association said it would look into it but that there was no surplus of eggs in Europe.
"There is a shortage of eggs everywhere on a global scale because consumption is increasing and many are affected by bird flu,” it added.
QuoteTurkey said in February it had started exporting about 15,000 tonnes of eggs to the US.
Here's a reminder of the approach that team Trump is taking in the struggle with bird flu. He's apparently using bluster, baloney and bad decisions to fix this problem.
Since October 2024, US customs officials at the Canadian and Mexican borders have intercepted 3,768 shipments of poultry products, including eggs. That's compared to 352 seizures of fentanyl.

What a conundrum Trump is creating for Americans. Maybe Trump will do a little dance and the tariffs will suddenly exclude things that Trump didn't know that we might need from our closest allies.

I know Boing Boing is well-known for their hard hitting, non biased journalism. But, someone will have to explain to me the importance of the fentanyl vs egg bust ratio.

Lighten up, Francis. I thought it was funny that Trump is strong arming our neighbors and deploying troops to stop one of the items he promised would be cheaper.
Here's some reporting about paying for access to the POTUS in the current administration. It can certainly be argued that Musk paid for some pretty sweet access, couldn't it?
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/mar/05/trump-dinner-mar-a-lago
The grifting for access to the king isn't new behavior for the mentally ill felon currently profiting from the presidency. Do you remember alarms about foreign countries paying to curry favor with Trump during his first corrupt presidency?
Can you see Trump's (and Musk's) obvious conflicts of interest?

Not every story has to be "important". Some are just interesting. I think it's interesting that we're smuggling eggs now. I also found it interesting that someone stole 100,000 eggs I believe it was in Pennsylvania. Is it "important" probably not. But these are interesting times.
It's okay for a presidential administration to simply ignore court orders, right?

The constitutional crisis is official.

Trump is doing what he said he would do by enforcing the Alien Enemies Act.
From a human rights perspective gathering up people, deporting them and imprisoning them without charges doesn't seem quite right.
I'm not saying I don't support the idea of deportation as I've made clear already. Perhaps even paying another country $20,000 per prisoner per year is cost effective. But I think perhaps they might have taken a moment to obey the court order and reassess the legality of it all.
What is happening right now is the narrative that this judge was out of line, was radical and Trump is a hero for putting Americans safety first. Homan said ""The actions of President Trump made this country safer... that's what American voters voted for. That's our mandate, and the president is keeping his promise,"
I don't like sowing the seeds of distrust in the law. We don't have a dictator that can do what he wants...do we?

We do. He's immune from prosecution while in office and now he's demonstrating in numerous ways that he is not restrained by convention, the courts, the laws, or the constitution.
I told you. Despots don't retire quietly to the seaside.

An opinion from Europe.
Zelenskyy forgot to pat Trump on the head in the Oval Office meeting. Putin better understands how to manipulate Trump.
