I confess to back pedaling into Trump territory when I wanted to leave discussions about him in the garbage can. My thread on the read-only break room site has 9,600 replies so I thought I'd bring up a new one.
He's not going away.
Haberman's book is out based on interviews. I won't read it, but the excerpts are interesting. Especially what he says about McConnell, a description that's against the Terms of Service here, but I actually don't disagree with. LOL
Quote“At one point, Trump made a candid admission that was as jarring as it was ultimately unsurprising. ‘The question I get asked more than any other question: “If you had it to do again, would you have done it?”’Trump said of running for president. ‘The answer is, yeah, I think so. Because here’s the way I look at it. I have so many rich friends and nobody knows who they are.’ … Reflecting on the meaning of having been president of the United States, his first impulse was not to mention public service, or what he felt he’d accomplished, only that it appeared to be a vehicle for fame, and that many experiences were only worth having if someone else envied them.”

It's a crazy thought from a crazy man. Imagine, Trump will reward people like RFKjr and Musk and who knows who else with federal government positions. Trump has dangerous and reckless judgment. He is mentally ill and suffering cognitive decline related to dementia.
His press briefing today was not evidence of a well man.

He supports free speech on his private owned platform?
Created electric vehicles to help curve climate change?
Does allign with a specific political party?
What's the attraction to Musk?
Is it the changes he made to Twitter? Did he increase its value or increase the number of unique users? There's evidence that Musk doesn't really value and support "free speech".
QuoteOn Monday, a judge in California dismissed Musk's lawsuit against the Center for Countering Digital Hate, a non-profit that has published reports chronicling the rise of racist, antisemitic and extremist content on the platform since Musk's acquisition.
"Sometimes it is unclear what is driving a litigation, and only by reading between the lines of a complaint can one attempt to surmise a plaintiff's true purpose,” wrote Charles Breyer, the US district judge, in the ruling. "Other times, a complaint is so unabashedly and vociferously about one thing that there can be no mistaking that purpose. This case represents the latter circumstance. This case is about punishing the defendants for their speech.”
Do you think that Musk created Tesla or engineered or designed the electric vehicles?
Is it Musk's political leanings that qualify him or make him a good choice?

Do you think someone else created Tesla or engineered or designed them? Who then?
A choice for what?

Yes. Tesla Motors was founded as an electric carmaker by engineers Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning in 2003. Musk invested in the company, he didn't start it, he didn't engineer the products, he didn't conceive of the idea.
Holy cow. This is about Trump saying he would make Musk part of his administration. Did you lose your train of thought?
QuoteDonald Trump unveiled a slate of new economic plans Thursday, including the creation of a government efficiency commission that he said Elon Musk has agreed to lead if the former president is elected in November.
What makes Musk an attractive choice?
I've long said that government waste and spending could be cleaned up. Trump admitted he didn't come up with idea himself but it was "At the suggestion of Elon Musk, who has given me his complete and total endorsement ... " Seems a bit like cronyism to me.
My inner voice tells me that any suggestions for "drastic reforms" would most likely not be of benefit to the middle and lower classes.
About "free speech", I think Twitter was about that prior to Musk. They allowed free speech and even porn, but when people started posting dangerous information about vaccines and covid, or spreading lies and conspiracy theories like "Trump won" that they needed to be a little more responsible with their platform. It's no secret that Democrat politicians used Twitter more and spent more there, and that their employees were largely Democrat, but republicans and their ideas were on Twitter as well.
It's one thing to be free to say "black people are lazy" or "gay people will burn in hell" but another to spread lies and even dangerous false information.
I left when it was still Twitter but understand several organizations and people stayed to continue to get their messaging out, I just don't follow it.

I don't use Twitter any longer.
I'm one of those people who believe that publishing information is publishing information and that the rules which apply to newspapers and magazines and television stations should apply to more modern publishers on modern publishing platforms. We can fix this when we elect a Congress which is more interested in governing rather than political theater.

So, who shall be the arbitror of such information?
We're constantly exposed to false information from social media, news media, talk radio, when politicians talk, our colleagues at work, in line at the coffee shop, etc. It's up to us to determine what the truth is.
How many members are on AN? Is AN going to be subject to oversight by a Harris administration? How is this going to work?
Actually. I do have idea. AN should be required to hire a disinformation czar. I would be perfect for the position. My team would replace the moderators, and we'd weed out all the false information posted in these forums before anyone else ever laid their eyeballs on it.

I think using community notes is more helpful than just censoring disinformation. It allows facts to be seen and heard.
Community notes would have been better than banning the POTUS. Doing so does not reflect free speech. IMV

Trump was not banned for his free speech and posting of "facts" but you are certainly able to believe that silencing him on their platform doesn't promote free speech. I believe he was banned for violating their policies more than once.
Twitter now known as X just like this forum is a private platform and they make the rules. Apparently given the thoughts of the vitriol there now have a different set of rules. It's the owner's right.
Most here know this story. I elect to stay on this platform knowing I can be banned for the things I say. Years ago there was a dreadful rich person (she chose to tell us she was a millionaire) that was very condescending to me and I called her a name and got censored and elected to take a 2 year sabbatical. I wasn't pushing the envelope, I knew it was wrong (I used to be an administrator here and I know the Terms of Service) and knew the consequences, and ultimately it felt right to me. I don't think my free speech was violated when I was told the rules ahead of time and I never complained.
The policies here haven't always been welcome. An offshoot group of Nurse Anesthetists created their own website and forum because they claimed they didn't have free speech here. I lurked there a time or too and the vitriol was annoying. I'd rather give up a little free speech and be in a more peaceful place.
Facts and truth, and just being decent, don't need a community note do they?

That's a tangent I wasn't going down. The owners of private websites should set the Terms of Service and how they moderate themselves and if one doesn't like that, then stay away from that website. You can disagree with that idea.
I do agree that it's up to us as individuals to decide based on what we see and read what truth we choose to believe in and promote.
The administrators here I think in the political forums allow for a bit more grey and they allow us to debunk each other's information back and forth.
But you certainly don't see a lot of posts such as "shark cartilage is the cure for cancer and the government is trying to cover it up", or "the covid vaccines are going to implant tracker devices"...etc.
They do a decent job of creating an environment without racism, homophobia and bullying, even if some things might fall through the cracks every now and then. Maybe you should post on the Admin Help Page your offer of your services. Maybe they could use another moderator. I was a moderator once and I had the politic forums in my assignment. I hated hated hated it and ultimately resigned. LOL

I don't understand the confusion.
In this country, we decided long ago that we would develop and fund our own experts in all of the important fields of sstudy and research. We have long depended upon our CDC and NIH and the like to advise us in issues of public health.
Until Trump.
Now all of a sudden HIS voters are so suspicious and paranoid that they don't trust ANY government institution or agency. That feeling extends to outright belligerent animosity if feelings can be judged by the words and behaviors of Trump voters.
Most people aren't confused about where to get credible information. Conservatives are getting fed propaganda from multiple angles and their political leadership tells them lies. They are confused and shouldn't be in charge of deciding things like that.
