Today is the Puberty Lesson for my DAUGHTER's class. I know it should be no different than any other class.......But C'mon now!! It just is!!!!!

My daughter gives me "guidelines" today as to what I can and can't say. She says "mom do not use the word MENSTRUATION, its just weird"

And then she says " And don't mention a word about MY PERIOD!!!"

What kind of mom do you think I am?!!!! Geesh give me some credit! I am not going to start the class with "Ok class, everyone look at my daughter Suzie, because she is having her period RIGHT NOW!!!. Suzie tell us a little bit about how your feeling..... Bloated? "

I don't let my kiddos use slang, so I use words like lady parts, vulva, member, scrotum loud and proud! Many teachers ask me how I can do it with a straight face while 7th graders are giggling. Watching a MS struggle to remember and say ejaculation is an experience :lol2:. When I have kids, I bet I'm the parent whose 5 year old is comfortable saying lady parts really loud and some other parent is going to hate me for it.

Facial expressions during sex ed are the best. I was teaching my last class to the 7th grade this week about protection methods. I asked them what kinds of thing/ways/etc they had heard of to avoid pregnancy and STIs.

One kid volunteered the pull out method and after I de-bunked that, the same kid said "can't guys get there testicles cut off." His face as I explained castration and that is wasn't a typical method of protection that males chose because of some of its effects was...well, it went from curiosity and interest to pure shock slowly over about 5-10 seconds...

Oh, how I would love to teach that to my daughter's class. She's already mortified that her friends come to see me in the clinic as it is.

This week the cutest guy in her class (per all 12 yr old girls) that all the girls just love winked at me. I told her that afternoon, "stay AWAY from J! He's 12 years old and already trying out his swagger on a 43 year old mom. That's not cool, babe."

I've been known to tell my boys, "Stop being fresh to me. I'm your Mother. I gave you life. You were swimming in my uterus in your own urine."

Yep. That'll usually shut them up.

Hahaha! Just yesterday I said to my 8 year old son (for some pretend slight) "How can you do this to me?? I gave you life! Grew you in my own body! Fed you with milk that I made myself! Taught you how to use a spoon and the potty!! Those are valuable life skills! How dare you offend me in such a way!!!!" He and his twin sister laughed until they fell.

Uterus/Urine comment. Especially the boys. They will be grossed out, but you will earn secret respect.

No issues when my kid was here...he had his own ATM Ask The Mom!!!

and the lunch ladies would let him charge his lunch to my account!

I still remember my mom bravely attempting to give me the talk when I was 14yo. I think I was more embarrassed for her than anything else. I will give her credit for at least trying but... She was a few years too late and she also wasn't up to snuff on the topic (just like quite a few arents are.)

Now if she had been a school nurse... Well... Maybe little me wouldn't have got in so much trouble :D

Thank you. I watched and laughed hysterically. Then my sister texted all upset 'cause of what the jacka-er, Trump said yesterday. So I sent her the link to the video and it totally made her feel better (well at least til he says something else that's stupid again).

I love that mom's parenting style, and I bet daughter never lies to her again.

As someone whose mother worked in the school office, I can relate to your daughter's feelings :)

It sounds like it went well. IMO, as long you treat her like any other student and don't use any anecdotes that involve her in any way--even if you don't disclose the name/relationship--then that will minimize the potential awkwardness.

Love the color.

I don't know exactly whu kids act like that? I'm from India and i remember that in our schools, we don't get this educational classes till we are in 10th grade and that too teachers don't explain it properly because they are more shy then us.

So, i think parents should talk to their kids about it so they don't have to face the things i have to face in my childhood.

Because when i entered my puberty and my mom don't like to talk about it. So that makes me feel bad. I have faced a period of depression during my periods.

Even i use to mess up my clothes because due to nervousness i use to have heavy flow. But my mom never tought me what type of pads to use or i must not feel ashamed of it or I'll be facing physical and emotional changes from now on words.....

Trust me when i was about to enter my college at that time i came to know the things happened to me during my periods was all normal and that too because i have started my nursing studies.

So please kids, give your parents to talk to you atleast once and parents must also talk to their kids about puberty and changes after it started because i think this will make kids and parents feel free to talk about this bad word 'puberty'.

Everybody is trying to make male chest and female breast to be seen equally then why not make girls feel comfortable about their periods???

I might have said alot more then my or others expectations but these all views are my personal and i don't want to offend anybody with my views.

Thank you
