The ONE thing that will make your nursing life easier

Published

Hi everyone,

This is a broad question to all of us:

What is that ONE thing that will make your nursing life easier?

This could mean many things like:

- Is there something you wish you discovered earlier in your career that would have made nursing easier?

- Is there something you wish existed that will make nursing easier?

- Is there something that you'd like to eliminate? eg. pain points

Custom orthotics for my feet.

Adequate nursing and support staffing on all shifts, all the time.

A remote control for humans--demanding family members, whining patients, screaming infants, and obnoxious doctors--with a mute button and the ability to render people instantly unconscious.

Reasonable mandated nurse to patient ratios.

Mandated ratios!

And... a physician on-site at night... I work at a smaller hospital (only 6 bed ICU) with a 30 bed med/surg/tele floor.. and the only doctor in the building is in the ED. It would be nice to have a MD, or even a NP or PA-C that works between the MS/ICU floor at night. Quicker orders... not having to explain everything over the phone....

No computer charting!!

Specializes in Pediatrics/Developmental Pediatrics/Research/psych.

Adequate healthcare. Dare I suggest at least as good as the Medicaid patients?
