I started a thread here that I meant to put somewhere else, and I erased it. So what to discuss in the coffee lounge?
Have you seen any good movies lately?
Last movie I saw was "The Last Duel". Pretty good.
Anyone seen "Dune"? I see it's available for streaming and might rent it. It's up for an Academy Award for best picture.
"Maria" is a bio pic about the final days of legendary opera singer Maria Callas. It's a Netflix movie and star Angelina Jolie so far has a Golden Globe nomination and a Critics Choice nomination for her performance which I think is well deserved. So there is Oscar buzz going on. She is in nearly every scene and captures the melancholy and emotions of the late singer very well.
I don't know what to think of the movie "Queer". I really liked it but didn't love it. Craig gives a career best performance in this movie. (He's already got nominations for it in the Golden Globes and Critics Choice and surely will get an Oscar nomination). He captures addiction and desire very well.
It's not presented in the usual style, but with a lot of symbolism and veered off on a tangent I wasn't expecting.

The Six Triple Eight is a Netflix movie done by Tyler Perry. It tells the true unknown story of the only all-African American female regimen sent into Europe during WWII. They were responsible for lifting the morale of the soldiers by assuring they and their families back home got mail that was not initially given a priority by the military.
It was a really good movie with a feel good ending with really good acting.
I liked at the end they gave an update including that some of them lived to get the the Congressional Gold Medal in 2022.

We just finished watching this movie. It was great. NEB cried multiple times. (I think it's the season)
I will definitely be recommending it.
Black Doves is a British spy thriller series on Netflix that has six episodes. It's getting good critical reviews for its cast and the story. I really enjoyed it. A few twists and turns that comes to a tense but satisfying conclusion at the end.
Apparently there's a season 2 in the works.
Juror #2 is a movie directed by Clint Eastwood who is 94 years old. It is the story of a man facing a moral dilemma of being a juror in a murder trial of a woman he might have accidentally killed on the road, and the strong possibility he would go to jail for vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated given his prior history of DUI, although he's in recovery and wasn't drunk.
There's a lot of tension because he wants to acquit the man without implicating himself but the other jurors think he's guilty of murdering her. Does he let the man go to prison for life?
Really good movie with a great cast.
Anora is a very critically acclaimed movie about a sex worker that gets together with a Russian billionaires son. The lead access Mikey Madison gives a knock out performance that got her a Golden Globe and Critics Choice nomination already. Most likely she will get an Oscar nomination as well.
It got off to a slow start, full of a lot of drugs, partying and sex but then for the most part was very good with a satisfying ending.
Small Things Like These is a quiet slow paced movie set in 1985 Ireland about a man living in a town where there is systemic abuse of unwed mothers in a church he delivers coal to. The town looks the other way because of the power of The Church. He has some memories of his own being the child of an unwed mother.
It was well acted and I would give the movie a B.
The Pitt is insanely good! It's still airing so only 2 episodes are out but it's a must watch! While it's primarily a show following the docs, nursing is a part of and and the shout outs to nursing in it are SO GOOD. Never have I seen a medical show shout out to nursing so well compared to this. Of course in addition to the shout outs to nursing, overall one of the better, if not the best ER/medical series I've seen so far.
The Pitt does look good.
"The Substance" is a unique movie that about an aging actress that takes a treatment to retain her youth and beauty. Demi Moore, an A-list actress in the 80's and 90's just won a Golden Globe for this role at age 62. It's considered her "finest hour" by some an dit is indeed very well acted by her. She's up for a Critics Choice Award and the Academy Award buzz is high.
The movie is very unique in how it approaches the topic of our youth and beauty obsessed society. It also takes some dark turns and some bit over the top horror elements. Overall I liked the movie.
