The Mockery of Nursing

Published

Just a bit ago the top three threads involved:

1.I have a DWI. Can I be a nurse?

2.I am stupid. Can I be a nurse?

3.If it takes me five times to pass NCLEX, Can I be nurse.

Not much left to add. Says it all.

I do still pray every time I put in a foley or an IV.

LOL!!

Ok, then what catergory do we fit into? I'll be later 30's by the time I graduate and start my career in nursing, so I won't fall into the young/hot nurse league. But you are right, I will not have earned my crusty status either.

I'm sorry I was late to this. I'm sure I could have come up with a witty answer. Instead I am on an AN vay-cay in a place called Orientationland. (A wonderful, peaceful place.)

*Sigh* At least I haven't come across those NETY monsters yet. (I've been wearing garlic to keep the biter nurses away.)

But to get back on-topic. I hear you...as alas I am an old new grad myself.

"I want to be a nurse. What kind of nurse pays the most money?"

"I can't find a job with ( blank) degree, I am going back to school to be a nurse"

I started a deal with my daughter when she was a sophmore in high school. She had to make dinner one night a week with a budget of $20 for a family of four. It had to be a complete balanced meal with all food groups represented and be edible. Our side of the bargain was that we would eat whatever was presented to us and if she came in under budget, she could keep the change. It's worked so well that now she makes dinner most nights of the week, is an awesome cook, and knows where to find the best food bargains. I'm a bit proud of the young lady. :)

Thats a really good idea :D

Now on top of everything else I have to pay good money to work as a nurse? Will the madness never end?

Lol I ment, which kind of nurse gets paid the most...the people that have no idea about nursing and are just "what part pays the most?" no it doesnt have to be a calling, but you have to at least enjoy it a little bit or no amount of money will make it "worth it".

I just had this image in my head of nurses lining up and saying, "Oh, I'd like to work in peds, how much for that job...Oh well, that's a little rich for my blood, what's tele going for?" "Oh, it looks like I can only afford LTC...aaaaarrrrrgggghhhhhh!"

And when God closes one door, he opens another!

Awesome. Don't let that 'another door' hit your butt on the way OUT of nursing.

Yes, I've heard this one before! And I think it's so true...why MUST some people persevere to an insane extent, to the point where you just have to ask "what makes you think your spending your life in a futile attempt to do something you don't seem meant to do is what G'd wants for you?")
By the same token, why do some people persevere in becoming a nurse, go on to advance in degree...... And proceed to self destruct by DWI. Even though they never drink/intended to drink.Must sit on my hands to not respond ... Just keep sitting on hands.

Hmm, I'm gonna have to see if someone else isn't sitting on their hands, because I don't remember this...?
