not to worry, mom. those of us who work in teaching hospitals know it's a part of our job to educate the baby docs. we take it seriously. the only residents who get "eaten alive" are the ones who don't listen. (when the experienced nurse asks you "are you sure you really want to do that, doctor?" only the most uneducable are sure they really want to do that. the rest stop and listen.) or the ones who tell us their first name is "doctor."
oh, believe me, i'm well aware: i could have written your post myself, verbatim! he knows only too well, when i'd come home after the july influx of baby docs would arrive. he knew that it was likely a couple of them (when asked their names, because they weren't forthcoming) would say "dr. xx". and he knew that their desire to impress just landed them a few rungs further down on my respect ladder than they expected.
and he also knew that there was at least one of them that i had taken aside, to gently say "you want to be a great doc? get called on interesting cases but not get called for a colace at two a.m.? listen, and learn." :)
i remember a very proud moment when one of those baby docs became chief resident, and was overheard telling his little cluster of newbies "see that nurse? make her your friend, and fast"! lol....very proud moment :)
That is going to be an interesting thread. She really isn't getting that she made a huge error in judgement does she? I expect a " nurse eating their young comment" any minute now!
