The Mockery of Nursing

Published

Just a bit ago the top three threads involved:

1.I have a DWI. Can I be a nurse?

2.I am stupid. Can I be a nurse?

3.If it takes me five times to pass NCLEX, Can I be nurse.

Not much left to add. Says it all.

This post is useless without links.

Or big clues!

Or big clues!

I think we're not supposed to give links to specific posts--especially if ridicule is involved.

But I CAN tell you that I took the cues offered here, went to the NCLEX Discussion forum, and followed my nose to the 'horror'.

Well it's a post about the "NCLEX horror" in the NCLEX forum.

I couldn't stop myself. Said what I thought. Am expecting to be labeled a 'hater' any second now.

I have to remind everyone that nurses are MEAN. Now that I've said that I am switching to Scotch because the wine was gone...and that makes me even MEANER.

What do I know, I'm only an LPN who passed on her first try.

Notice even an LPN know it's passed and not past.

I am liking the thread about student's complaints. About how HARD it is to get up at 5:00 am to go to clinicals and how they can't wait to work Nights because it is so much easier on their body. I can't wait for them to start complaining about how tired and shi**y they feel (oops - almost said a bad word) working Nights and how can they get on Day Shift because Nights are soooo hard on their body!

The NCLEX ones fasincate me - we get something simlar in the Canadian Forum - buts ours are how MEAN the CNO is that after 3 failures you are SOL and need to take a re-fresher before writing again. Why can't they write a 4th time because they are Special Snowflakes and it wasn't their fault they failed!

Of course I'm a MEAN OLD UGLY nurse who drinks (GASP!) on my off time and expects Nursing Students to know what the drug is before I let them give it!! -

Slight off-side - I had the student from He** (oops another bad word) for his Consolidation once. I was hard on him - he needed it! At one point we had some first year students who saw me refuse to let him give a med he didn't know. While I was off giving the med, one said to him - "Your preceptor is MEAN". He replied "No. She wants me to learn". He turned out OK if I do say so myself but it took alot of hard work and a couple of nasty verbal tear downs on my part. One nurse observed one such tear down - well deserved on his part - where I went up one side of him and down the other. She said I scared her! If the Internet existed back then he probably would have posted about his MEAANNN preceptor and how could he get rid of her. And all the students would have said 'you are going to be a GREAT nurse don't listen to her" - he became a good nurse because I was MEANN to him!

Oh...and since there has been a multi-page lapse in reminding folks how MEAN nurses are, I want to point out that nurses who frown on flirting with the OB resident instead of checking FHTs or get angry if you refuse to put on the isolation gear because it messes up your hair are not only extremely MEAN to those younger and probably better looking staff, but they are just plain MEAN spirited and bitter in general because they are old.

Is the drinking game still on? Hi Bob!

naw, tewdles, you're mean because you aren't encouraging everyone who has ever failed the NCLEX a half dozen times that they should keep on going, that it's in their destinies to become nurses. If you don't believe that, you're defuhnutly mean.

"New nurse here, I was hired in January and just got fired. My boss was mean and never really liked me. How should I put this on my resume? Would you list her as a reference?"

"New nurse here. Kilt someone today. Kin ya help mee?"

"Hallo I am in school to be nurse I want to work in California when I get there how much is pay? and benefits Thanks for help"

So...wait. Let me get this straight. Someone has failed NCLEX 4 times, but believes she should still be a nurse.

Okie dokie smokey.

Ummmm, perhaps you've never heard of a DREEEAAAMMMM????? She might not be smart, but she CARES and has COMPASSION which obviously you don't have. She'll NEVER be a mean nurse like you!! Don't you remember what it's like to be a student????

Off to be horror-fied...

So, you didn't like my more subtle answer?

Yes please!! Subtle clues!!! We've made it this long without being shut down, mustn't mess up now!! :)
