The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

It just doesnt make sense to my that KH hasnt check anyones credit yet, unless she is the designated alternate analyst. But if they already made decisions, why wouldnt they just say that in the July 19th email? And wouldnt alternates need their credit checked too? Maybe shes just doing things differently, I hope she is. I think she is the only analyst who hasnt done credit checks yet. Im very nervous..

My credit hasnt been check yet :(, however Im kinda confused, my report says I have no new inquiries since 08...which I know is not true...WEIRD!

Well, even though my school would have allowed tuition to ride until I heard something, if I heard something, on the 24th... I went ahead and accepted my student loan funds. I still have not had my credit checked or received any new correspondence. At this point, if it happens, I will be thrilled. If not, at least I won't be forced to work full time through grad school. Either way there will be benefits and detriments... and either way, I'm excited to start this jouney soon! When I decided to go back to school, we planned to have loads of student loan debt (my husband is following the same path and going to nursing school). This won't alter our plans! :) Best of luck everyone! I feel for those that can't go without the scholarship! Don't give up!

well my "analyst" said that we will know beginning aug 24th. i honestly think that if my credit is not checked today or tomorrow, this reduces the chances of me getting this scholarship. there are only 9 business days left before the 24th.

that is still plenty of time!! i just praying and hoping for the best! dont give up especially when there's at least a week left before they "said" they will let us know.

I have received messages from KH & AW... I checked this morning and my credit was pulled yesterday..

There may be more than just 9 days, JV called me on a Sunday afternoon :) Dont give up!!

Specializes in non-animals.

Has JV called anyone else up wanting to clarify their tuition and expenses for the upcoming school year?

I haven't... Which stinks because I know my school didn't get the email. I've pretty much concluded that I am likely an alternate... Though I haven't been able to figure out why exactly.

I am beginning to think that my tuition is too high for them. I am in an accelerated program that I will finish in one year and the total scholarship that I will need to get to pay for tuition, books, uniforms and the stipend comes up to 59,500 dollars for the 12 months of my BSN. If you think about it they can award 5 or 6 students with that money instead of paying for me. :(

well, most of you will prolly think im crazy, but im in the accelerated 2nd degree program also, and only have one semester left. I graduate dec 11th. So counting summer semester, tuition will total 10,000. which isnt really that much. Plus i have a 3.8 cumulative GPA, EFC of 0. Not sure why, but i also think I am an alternate. Have any of you that have KH tried to call her or contact her at all? I didnt see a phone number on her email so I'm not sure how everyone else is able to call their analyst...

I don't know if that's the case but I've received all the emails and had my credit checked on the 10th and my tuition alone is 30k a year. I still have 2 years left so that would be 60k just for tuition, not including the stipend and all other associated costs. I don't know if alternates have their credit checked now or later if they're picked to receive the scholarship if someone declines. But I'm hoping for the best.
