So a few days ago...pt checks in during the middle of a very busy day... Her CC: "Need pregnancy test"
The MD (a non-nonsense doc) goes in to see the pt. Conversation as follows:
Doc: Do you smoke?
Pt: Yes
Doc: Do you have cigarettes now?
Doc: Then you have the money to go to the dollar store and get a pregnancy test. I'll get your discharge papers ready.
Love it!

SERIOUSLY PEOPLE. The 99 cent only store. I don't even understand how the makers of name brand pregnancy tests stay in business when you can spend 8-9 times less for the same ******* thing!

:yeah:That's classic!
That's funny that you guys should mention preg tests at the dollar store. I was just there checking out all the OTC meds they have available (reading all the labels and comparing doses with name brands). The nursing student student in me is compelled to research everything, everywhere, all the time. It turns out, our local dollar store gives our local pharmacy a run for its money (the meds are the SAME - just in smaller quantities). I do have to admit, the thought of buying off brand condoms at the dollar store seem a little scary. Almost as scary as needing to buy a pregnacy test...at the dollar store.
Incidentally, the nursing student in me is also broke, and needs to shop at the dollar store

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm really curious to know the patient's reaction! Would you please tell us?

OK here what i do not get the last time I was in the ER they walk in and told me they where going to do a pregnancy test, I told them there was no way in #### I that I could be pregnet , WHY because I cannot have kids , have an IUD to try to stop my bleeding , and Oh I am a virgin !!!!! and I did not want one and and did not want to pay $150 .00 for one I did not need .
At this point they first froze in place because of the virgin thing and then I was told it did not matter that it was mandatory !!!

Last week I was at the local dollar store picking up father's day cards (which can also be had at incredibly lower prices). I needed to get some ibuprofen, so went to the appropriate aisle and looked at the available options, which were as follows.
All doses were 200mg pills, not gelcoated, just regular red ibuprofen pills.
Name brand, 24 pills- ~$3.50
Name brand, 50 pills- ~$6.00
Store brand, 100 pills- ~$1.75
DUH!
