I was wondering what you guys thought were the best shoes to buy for standing on your feet for 12 hour shifts? Any advice???

Easy Spirits and Nikes have been the best shoes for me to work in, and I've had Plantars Fasciitis before. :)

One of my classmates' dads is a podiatrist, and she said that New Balance are the only shoes he recommends for people who are on their feet for long periods of time.

My dh just went to a podiatrist for a baseline check of his feet due to recently diagnosed diabetes and the doc said the same thing . . funny he has bought NB shoes for years just because they were comfy and he works outside alot (farmer/logger). I just looked at the shoes on my feet and they are NB too . .. never noticed that. I just try on shoes until I find some that feel good.

After doing a search here related to shoes I just bought a pair of Quarks (wanted Crocs but couldn't find any near me).

I'll have to let you know ;)

I have trouble with my knees, hips, and feet. Years ago, my orthopedist (for my knees) recommended that I not wear ANY single shoe every day -- and that I consider not wearing any single shoe for an entire day. He recommended that I change shoes during the day in order to change the points of pressure and stress -- so that no one body part received the stress for an entire day. By changing shoes, I vary the stress points and give those body parts time to recover. My podiatrist (for my plantar fasciaitis) agreed with that advice.

It sounded like good commonsense advice to me. I have taken it over the years and it DOES seem to help me. A few friends who have tried it have also found it helpful.

llg..........my doctor gave me the exact same advice when I was suffering with PF. I also had custom foot pads made to insert in my shoes that tie...I was told I'd get better support if I wore shoes that tied because it would give me added support when working on my feet for hours at a time. My feet feel great now!:)

I'm so glad to find someone else who has tried this commonsense advice and found it helpful. Sometimes, when I have advised people to try it, they look at me as if I am letting them down. They wanted some expensive, high-tech solution ... and I tell them to "rotate their shoes!"

I also used good custom-made orthotics about 15 years ago when my PF first got bad. They were hard to get used to, but worked great. By the time they wore out, I didn't need to replace them. My PF started getting worse again about 5 years ago. A different podiatrist gave me cortisone shots in each heel (which didn't hurt nearly as much as it sounds) and that also worked great.

I'm not on my feet much anymore ... but rotating the shoes is all I need now.

Good luck, everybody. I know how painful PF can be -- and it's a lot more painful than most people think it is.

I rotate my clogs on a daily basis. Never wear the same pair two days in a row.

I am on my feet in an ER for 12 hour shifts and I will only wear Birkenstocks!!!

I wouldnt wear crocs if I had to be in them for 12 hours - I have a pair - there is NO support - very softy spongy sort of slipper/shoe. I wear them for slogging through the mud after riding my bike - they are great apres' sport shoes, but they are NOT work shoes!

I have Danskos - I like those but they are heavy and make my legs tired. They are the sport version, maybe the pro version is lighter. I just hate exposed staples on clogs tho - the sports dont have staples. I can wear them about one day a week.

I have a pair of Tatami silverlakes - made by birk - also very heavy because they are the rubber instead of the cork sole. I wear those about one day a week too. The toe ridge bothers me if I wear them more than one day in a row

I have tried wearing Nikes, Reeboks, NB's and Avia's - tennys just dont work well for me. Not enough arch support, even in the NB. I have extremely high arches.

I have tried most of the others - clarks, quarks, klogs, even some strange italian brand, etc and havn't cared for any of them. I have had my go rounds with PF too.

I also have a couple of pair of birk cork sole type shoes - LOVE those! Light weight, comfy and I can wear them for day upon day of 12 hour shifts. But then birks are the kind of shoe you either love or hate....
