Aw. So, I'm already having a bad day.
One of my students, the one that tells people I'm her mom because she really doesn't have anyone else to call mom, just came to say goodbye.
Moving in with her real mom, who is trying like hell to make things right with her daughter.
She'd better.
I corrected the kid when she called me mom, btw. She was just in my office every.single.day. and I care about her.
Happy the kid is hopefully getting a fresh start. Sad for me.
Little late to the party, but ::hugs:: Farawyn.
I think we are have one of those kids. When I started my job, I had to file with CPS on a student. To avoid the pressure of the investigation, that student was sent out of the country to other relatives. It was not a good situation and I feared for the student's outcome. The student did make their way back into my school, but was changed forever. That student does remember the time spent with me, the picture that student drew for me, and because of it, I know we have a bond that I wish happened during better circumstances.
They get inside your heart. They really do.

Hard to believe there are parents out there like this....and we care for these kids....

That's why they are also "our" kids.
I'm sorry Farawyn. I like the quote above "Every child you encounter is a divine appointment".
Or coincidence. Regardless, we let them in our hearts and then take that risk. I think it is worth it.
I assessed a young boy who came to see me with itchy skin and I found multiple bruising over his arms and back. I called CPS and the local Sheriff Dept. He and his younger siblings were taken out of that home and placed in another one locally. After a year, they were sent to another family 200 miles away. I'm glad he and his siblings are safe but I miss seeing his face in the hall.
I've been gone for two weeks now from my job and I do miss the kids but I can visit.

I miss you in this thread! :)
Psych-y Girl Stuff today.
I have a teacher who feeds in to a student and helps blow the fragile kid's emotions all over the place. I had to call our amazing Psychologist as they were in my face and it was literally making me upset/sick. Psych validated me setting limits with TEACHER and kid.
Bring on the vomit, bring on the lice, bring on the broken fingers...this ^ stuff is the rough stuff.

Awww it's hard to let go when we worry about these kids and really see them as our own. Of course we know they're not really ours but they become such a part of our life and we just want everything good for them in the world. Hope it works out well for this child.
