Tarrant County Spring 2012 Applicants

Published

I am starting this for anyone who is applying for the TCC RN program in August.

Specializes in Hoping to do either L&D or Trauma.

I printed everything from the self-registration page so that I at least have an idea of what's offered. If I had my guess, North Hills Hospital is the closest one to me on the list, but I don't know what MMMC or BSW are either . . .

I'm thinking MMMC is Mansfield Methodist which is closest to me, and BSW is probably Baylor Southwest

I though maybe MMMC was Mansfield also but it's not listed on the legend. HMMC is so I was wondering if it is a typo

I'm actually only a mile from MCA but it's not on the list for first semester :(

I've looked.over the schedule and have already picked out my"ideal"schedule. afternoon clinicals, morning skills and afternoon lectures.

if ANYONE ends up with that schedule besides myself --im begging on my knees --PLEASE trade me!!! haha! :)

Txhusker, I want as much as I can in the morning, so if I get yours and you get mine, I will trade you.

Specializes in OR.

I'm trying to not be overwhelmed. Do we get to pick our schedule or do they assign us a clinical location? I would have been following on the board a long time ago, but I really really did not believe I was going to get in. Will they tell us the type of stethoscope to buy?

Congratulations to all of you who have been accepted!! And to those of you who have not heard anything yet, keep your chin up! They will continue to advance alternates as people decline, don't turn in paperwork on time, don't pass backgrounds or drug tests, etc. They make changes as close as the day before classes start, so don't give up hope just yet!

Reading through all of your posts filled with excitement brought tears to my eyes. I remember that feeling all too well. And I have to admit, I am pretty jealous that you guys found out SO EARLY!! Our wait was agonizing, and we didn't start receiving letters until June 1st! With the move to the new campus and all of the logistics that went with it still up in the air, we had a bit of a longer wait.

To answer a few questions I have seen:

* Your schedules will be picked for you. The Nursing Department does their best to place you in a clinical facility that is close to your home. Please make sure if you've had any recent change in address that you update the Nursing Department ASAP with that information.

* Our schedules were posted in the hallway of the Nursing Building on South Campus last semester. I'm not sure if they will post schedules in the same fashion this time around, but if so, it will most likely be somewhere on the 3rd floor of the TRHN building. If you get a schedule that does not work with you, or you prefer something different, there will be (or has been in the past) a sheet that you will fill out next to the posted schedules with your name and the schedule you want to trade for. We were told that you had to swap entire schedules, not just one class or a clinical site for another, so that is something to consider.

* Concerning scrubs... you can buy any brand of scrubs that you want, and any style (cargo pants, drawstring pants, tops with pockets, tops with no pockets, etc.) as long as the pants are a true teal and the tops are solid white with v-necks. Also, make sure that your scrub pants are not too long. With your shoes on, they cannot touch or drag the ground. If they do, you will be told to get them hemmed. Scrubs can be purchased from any retailer of your choice, as long as the match the guidelines listed above.

* Shoes must be all white (New Balance has solid white shoes, but they have gray stitching around the N on the sides... I have these shoes and it has not been an issue. However, I would not tempt buying shoes that have much more color than that). The shoes must have closed toes and they must have a heel (no backless clogs or crocs allowed). I have a pair of New Balances and I also have a pair of Shoes for Crews Froggz clogs. I spent about $25 less on the Froggz clogs, and they are by far my favorite. They are super comfortable, easy to get on and off, allow my feet to "breathe", and are extremely easy to keep clean.

* If you choose to purchase a lab coat, just make sure it follows the "all white" guidelines. Again, you can purchase any style you like.

* ALL scrub tops and lab coats must have a TCC Nursing patch permanently sewn to the left sleeve, 1-2 inches below the shoulder. I was concerned about bleaching my white tops and it causing my patches to bleed, or putting them in the dryer and warping the patches, but it has not been an issue. The patches are available in the TR Bookstore, and are around $3.99 or $4.99/ea if I remember correctly. Also, you will be required to purchase a name tag, which will also be purchased from the TR Bookstore. You can buy a magnetic name tag or one that pins, it's your preference.

* Stethoscopes are your preference. You can spend as little or as much money on them as you want. Just don't let them out of your sight!! And I was super OCD about my steth when I first got it, always being sure to carry it around in the box it came in, never wanting to bend it or drop it or anything. You'll learn in the first few weeks of clinical that they are a lot more durable than what you think. Just be sure not to leave it in your car as our Texas temperatures can cause the tubing to warp or crack. If you're interested in a Littmann, the best online retailer I've found is www.medisave.net . They have the best prices, offer free engraving, and if you use the coupon code FACEB11, you'll also receive a 5% discount. When I ordered my steth from them, I had it within 2 days.

Please feel free to post or PM me with any other questions you may have.

You guys are gonna love the new campus! It is breathtakingly beautiful! We are so very fortunate to have such an amazing campus to learn on. The technology is just phenominal. I promise you won't be disappointed. :)

@ the dreamer- thanks soooo much for the info!! that really helped to clear things up! but I do have a question about the ID's. I already have a school ID so do I need to get a new one for the nursing programs?

Hi all....

Congratulation to those who made it.

For those did not receive the letter, don't feel down. Keep your chin up. There are still a lot of factors in the next few weeks just like dreamer say. To be honest, This is the first time that I apply for Nursing. However, I got my BS in computer science 10 years ago and lost my job last year. That is the reason I went back to school and want to be a nurse. I spend so many hours to study and make sure I did good on all the pre require class. This is the best way that I can prepare myself and be competitive when I am apply for Nursing school. For me, I know what my goal is and I am preparing myself with the best possible chance to get in.

I just wonder how many male students are getting in this time. I know so far that I am the only male in this thread.

There had been some talk about changing the look of the student ID's for the Nursing Program specifically, but as far as I know that hasn't happened yet. Ulness you are notified otherwise, I think it would be okay if you kept your original ID.

Congrats to all new 2012 Spring nursing students!!! :)

I didn't get in either:(

@manow I spoke to nursing dept today and the nicest lady said until we receive the decline letter there is still at least a glimmer of hope:) My science gpa is 3.5 and 90 on hesi and she said it was very competitive and not sure how far I missed. I am bummed but still hoping for a miracle.

Congrats again..... very Happy for you all!!!

ajkstief!!! You're so close!......You have solid GPA and HESI scores....I'm thinking you're on the top of the alternate list with those scores. And even if not, give it another shot in January and we'll see you on campus next fall. (Please excuse my use of a conjunction to start that last sentence. DARN YOU HESI STUDY GUIDE!!)
