Tarrant County Fall 2011 Applicants

Published

Hello,

I'm applying to the fall nursing program in January. I'm super excited but I still have some unanswered questions. I tried calling the Nursing Dept at the South Campus and left a message but have not heard a response.

I'm trying to find out what teas version they are testing with in the spring for fall entry. I have read tons of threads from TCC for the past few semesters and it is nice to start a new one for nursing hopefuls like me.

I'm taking Micro in the fall and getting a math class knocked out for BSN. Anyway, hope to get some responses.

All I have left is the drug screen too. So, I wonder if we will be able to register after the schedules are out or will we have to wait for the drug screening to get completed?

I bought 2 patches at SO campus today. $4.25 ea. They only have a few left, maybe 3 to 5.

They are kept behind the register.

Briterz...I attended TCC for two years (Fall 2010 was my last semester) for prereqs and I never had any problems with my Financial Aid or grants (I got grants for two semesters). I got the refunds from my loans/grants at least one week before class direct deposited into my checking account. Just be sure you get your papers turned in before the deadline. The sooner the better.

Hey guys so I'm meeting my friend tomorrow almost all day to hang out and talk nursing school! Anybody have anything else you want me to ask? She just finished her first year and is in her summer session now!

Other than care plans, how many, how long, and what types of papers did she have to write? Were topics given? How harshly are the papers graded? What other types of assignments are given? Can you use an iphone or ipod with drug book apps. during clinical? Are you constantly busy during clinical? What, if any, kinds of things has she seen people get "in trouble", reprimanded, etc. for doing/saying? I've read threads from other nursing schools that are phasing out care plans: any mention of that for TCC? Can we use previous edition textbooks, or must they be the most current? What brands of shoes do she and her friends prefer? Will we be able to buy used scrubs at orientation? Do a lot of people find laptops useful during class? Has she seen any conflicts (Dr., nurse, student) during clinicals?

OMG, that will probably take all day to answer, but thanks for any info she can share!

Thanks, I answered my own question.

I thought we would be assigned Courses in our first Semester and we would not be allowed to select our schedules????....Loly, are you talking about registering for our second Semester????...I am confused!....

From what I gathered, we still register for our "assigned schedules" once we are cleared to register, usually a week after the drug screening. :)

Thanks Loly.

I dropped my Acceptance letter today and bought a recommended Clinical Calculations made easy...for $3.50 on bookbyte. Does anyone know if TCC has the books in the Bookstore? I want to compare prices....Barnes and Noble's prices seem fair, but I could be wrong. It is selling the Nursing Intervention by Perry, Porter & Elkin for $105 (Package) and the Fundamentals of Nursing for $95.

We do register for our assigned schedules, which is why I wish we could get the drug screen out of the way. I like to pay tuition with payment plans and the sooner I can do that the less the downpayment is. I wonder why we have to wait until August to do the drug screen? I wish I would have thought to pick uo the patches while I was at the campus yesterday.

I was looking at our information and it says we are supposed to order our name tags at the Trinity River bookstore. Are we not able to order them from the South campus? Has anyone tried yet?

I haven't tried, but when I was at the South Campus Bookstore yesterday, he let me know that it would be wise to start trying to purchase items for nursing at Trinity River. He said they have been sending everything over there.
