Tarrant County Fall 2011 Applicants

Published

Hello,

I'm applying to the fall nursing program in January. I'm super excited but I still have some unanswered questions. I tried calling the Nursing Dept at the South Campus and left a message but have not heard a response.

I'm trying to find out what teas version they are testing with in the spring for fall entry. I have read tons of threads from TCC for the past few semesters and it is nice to start a new one for nursing hopefuls like me.

I'm taking Micro in the fall and getting a math class knocked out for BSN. Anyway, hope to get some responses.

I'm struggling with remaining positive, but not getting my hopes up.

Your science and math scores were great! I'm not sure that you ever posted your overall adjusted score, but they say the math and science portions weigh the most in TCC's secret formula. I doubt you have anything to worry about.

I've been concerned seeing so many high 80's, and even a 90% overall adjusted yesterday. I'm concerned that my 80.6% overall isn't going to be good enough. But I rationalize it in my mind like this: We are the exception, not the norm. "We" being those of us who sought out this message board, those of us who went looking for guidance in the application process, studying for the TEAS and the testing process; those of us who went looking for others as support during this crazy stressful time. In my opinion, we are going to be the ones with the highest GPA's, the highest TEAS scores, and the ones getting accepted. Because afterall, if the others were as serious as we are about getting in, then why haven't they taken the time to find allnurses? Might sound crazy to some, but that's how I justify it in my head that I still have a shot at getting in. Those of us who are serious and committed to this process have all found our way onto this website because of our dedication, and those that aren't so serious might not have scored so well on the TEAS or have such stellar GPA's, and aren't going to be on this site posting their scores. I might be looking too much into it, but it's the only thing I have to hold on to right now and keep myself from going crazy during the looooooooooooong wait!

I've never wanted this so bad either. I don't see myself doing anything in life other than Nursing. And after the unfortunate events of last semester, I don't think I could stand another rejection letter.

All of you, each and every one of you, are awesome!! And I hope we are all a few short months away from acheiving our dreams!!

And ab, I hope your husband recovers quickly!!

The Dreamer-- you completely summed up my thinking process on this whole application period!!! I think the same way you do.. we are the ones that are on this website and to be honest, I think we are the ones that are at the "top" of the list because of our scores and GPA's. Hopefully... fingers crossed!!

I definitely agree.. EVERYONE posting on this website has great scores and amazing GPAs.. I hope the letters get to us quickly and we all receive good news!! It seems like everyone that has written on these threads ends up getting in or on the alternate list (which is pretty much getting in), so that's what I'm hoping for.. that everyone is in!!

Ab- I hope your husband is getting better!!!! My boyfriend is a mechanic and works around all those tools everyday and that's scary!! :/

It feels like time is passing by so slowlyyyyyy! AHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Does anyone else feel like the time is crawling along? Maybe it is because I turned my app in so early. Feels like I've been waiting ages now!:down::down::down:

What is everyone going to be doing between now and the beginning of nursing school *fingers crossed*? Taking a break to relax? Working? Going on vacation over the summer? Spending time with kids?

I'm hopefully going to be working again soon. I think that will help to pass the time. Also, as sort of a tool to keep myself thinking positively about getting accepted to nursing school, I began working out in January to get myself in better shape when the Fall semester starts. I figured it would only benefit me when it is time to do clinicals and stuff. Lost 30 lbs already! I was sick all of this weekend and ended up losing 8 lbs from not eating anything lol. I felt terrible, but got on the scale and did a happy dance. :yeah:

You gals (and guys) all seem to be awesome! I hope y'all continue posting on this thread, even if it is about nothing at all...sorta like my post now haha. I wish all of you the best! For those that are worried about getting in, just stay positive!

DITTO!! I turned in my application the second week of January. I feel like I have been waiting foreeeeeeeeever, and the application period just ended yesterday. I feel like the hours in the day are dragging by, and it seems like the days are virtually at a stand still. I don't think I've gone one day since dropping off my application that I didn't think/worry about Nursing School.

As for keeping ourselves busy, I work full time, and it's a pretty hectic job that keeps me busy 99.9% of the time. I'm not taking any classes right now, and while we don't have any vacation plans as of yet, it would be nice to get away while we can because I know that is going to be unlikely while in NS.

And congrats on the weight loss! I just started working out with my best friend 3 weeks ago, focusing mainly on cardio, and I can tell I'm already sleeping better at night, and I feel better during the day. It is a nice stress reliever, too!

I was reading some previous threads of previous years and the past few years, with the exception of the last Fall class, they receive their letters mid April with orientation the 1st few days into May. Does anyone know when they are doing camp success this Fall? By knowing that we could probably assume we would get letters at least 2 weeks before....... I am hopeful to get in. I had a TEAS score in the high 80's and my science GPA is a 4.0.....but this waiting is killing me!

Thanks for the well wished for my husband! He is recovering and on Monday we will get to return to the DR and see how that is going.

I am staying busy taking care of my husband and children. I also work full time at a hospital, so staying busy is not a problem. I am hoping to take a vacation this summer. I am not making any plans until I get a letter from TCC though. If I do not get in I will retake micro this summer, because it will be more than 5 years old for next application period. I hope I don't have to do that though.

Congrats on the weight loss--That is something I am trying to do, but failing at it. Are you just working out or doing a special diet as well?

This waiting game is killing me!!! lol I am freaking out though because the only thing that I think can hold me back is not having my PHED completed. I am taking it online this semester but technically it does not count. I'm worried because some threads in the past those people don't get in but then again my friend got in with having it incomplete and her mom got in with all 3 of those classes (phed, elective, and speech) incomplete. I'm just freaking out here!!! I'm just trying to remain positive and remember that if I don't get in this time around then I'll have all my classes complete and I can take a 'bonus' class over the summer. I hate these next couple of months!!!

I work at Six Flags over Texas doing corporate stuff and we are about to re-open this saturday so luckily that will keep me busy now. My boyfriend and I are also going to Jamaica for vacation in May and we are hoping we can celebrate getting accepted into nursing school! :/

Jamaica is the most beautiful place I have ever been! It will be a great place to celebrate!

I am also keeping busy by "preparing" for the program. I went online to the bookstore and printed a list of all the required and suggested books for each odf the classes. That way I would have an idea of what this is going to cost. Also, I have started picking some of the reference books and study helps up. I also bought a book on test-taking techniques for beginning nursing students. I think I'm a little crazy, but it makes me feel like i'm doing something, because I am soooo impatient.

Well, I just ran the cowtown half marathon on Sunday and the training was what kept me busy during that time. It kind of backfired though because while I ran I thought a lot about nursing school, getting accepted, Teas score etc..... My girls also keep me on my feet, they are 6 and almost 3. My 6 year old has a school project every week it seems and she is only in kindergarten. I hope my hubby will take some of that load once I get in. I really have no plans from now until fall aside from spending some quality time with my family, keeping my workout routine, surfing allnurses :), and stalking the mailman. Ha! This is a really cool group of people :)

Loly-Congrats on the half marathon!!! I did the 10k on Saturday and had so much fun!!

Well, we've all made it through the first few days or waiting! haha!
