Tarrant County College?

Published

Hello to everyone! I'm brand new to this site, but already finding lots of great information. Are any of you familiar with or applying to Tarrant County College ASN program? I'm in the dreaded wait until the first part of May. I took my TEAS exam last weekend and did really well so I'm hoping for the best! I look forward to getting to know each of you better.

A little more info....

I did call just to see if I could get any information. I first talked to what I think must be the general secretary and she told me that a couple of alternates had been called but that the alternates were not on an ordered list and the committee selects the next one that they want to call when a spot becomes open. Then she transferred me to what I consider the official secretary (Katy, the lady that we spoke about). She said that she was going to be calling a couple people today off of the list. She did say that she had not moved very far down the list as of yet which makes me feel as though it really IS an ordered list and they just work their way down. She made a good point that some people might be on the UTA alternate list and get in there and then turn their spot down here later. Basically, it really is all a waiting game, and I'm right in the thick of it! :) Thanks for checking on me. You'll have to let me know how orientation goes on Friday!

I talked to Bev yesterday and she told me the exact same thing. You know what they say?? "It ain't over till the fat lady sings." I've still got my fingers crossed!!

Katy - thanks so much for checking up on things for me, that was very sweet of you!

Can't wait to hear about orientation!

So how was orientation? Give me all the scoop! :)

So how was orientation? Give me all the scoop! :)

I got to meet Brealynn!! That was just too cool. AND SHE BROUGHT ME CHOCOLATE!!!! I was cracking up. I thought that was so sweet, hehehehe, literally. It was interesting being one of the people to stand in the front and look out over everyone attending the orientation because I know that I had that same deer in the headlights look before my first semester. They throw all of this stuff at you and basically say, don't be overwhelmed but your life ends in the fall. LOL!!!

Mom, your day is coming and it's coming soon, I just know it!! When it comes, don't worry about not getting to go to orientation, I'll help you through it!! And, I won't charge you any chocolate, LOL!!

Love,

Katy

You are so "sweet", I really appreciate your willingess to help!

I think I've almost resigned myself to the possiblity that it just might not happen for fall. Bev certainly wasn't overly encouraging when we spoke a few days ago. Of course, I'm still holding out hope that it will, but I guess we will just wait and see.

Did you count the number of people that were there by chance?

Mom...

At orientation, they said there were 110 of us nursing students. It was kind of like a mad house at the end of orientation when people were trying to find out their schedules and stuff. Long lines to stand in, etc. I've got clinicals in the mornings at Medical Plaza in Ft Worth. Oh my, I'm not a

5 am morning person at all. I'm going to try and switch with somebody that has the 1-7 pm shift. Also, I have to get my daughter off to school in the mornings at 8:30 am. It's gonna be tuff !!!!

Wow, have I told you how jealous I am??? ;) It all sounds so completely exciting. I can't wait for my turn to come.

Wow, I just found this site today. I'm also starting this fall in TCC nursing program and am very nervous but so excited too! In fact, I was so nervous at orientation that I had to go back today and look at my schedule again just to make sure I had it right. 110 students looking at one bulletin board was a bit nuts! ;)

So when you go in for orientation they give you your schedule? Can someone give me an idea of what the schedule is like? i.e., M-F 8-5..??

Specializes in OR Internship starting in Jan!!.

Aynge - Welcome! This is a cool site and a great group of people!

I am being pinned tomorrow night at TCC and graduating on Friday! It was the toughest two years of my life, but I did it! TCC is a great program and all I ever heard from nurses during my clinicals is how much they love TCC students because they were much more eager to "do" rather than "observe." While both UTA and TWU are fine colleges, it seems the BSN programs put more emphasis on management whereas TCC students get more clinical exposure and are allowed to do more things. In my five semesters (summer Psych), I was in five different hospitals, and everyone agreed that TCC students are better prepared for the clinical setting upon graduation. With that many nurses already out there all saying the same thing, there must be some truth to it.

I'm also proud to announce that my daughter will be starting in the fall!

In actuality - they all do the same number of clinical hours. the BS programs include clinical hours in community health, critical care and management as well.
