Hello to everyone! I'm brand new to this site, but already finding lots of great information. Are any of you familiar with or applying to Tarrant County College ASN program? I'm in the dreaded wait until the first part of May. I took my TEAS exam last weekend and did really well so I'm hoping for the best! I look forward to getting to know each of you better.
Yep, it seems to be the conversions that I have a hard time memorizing. I know what to do with them when I get them, I just need to commit more of them to memory.
No phone call yet. I wasn't really expecting one yet anyway. I'm trying to relax about it as much as possible and gear up for micro starting a couple weeks. For TCC purposes I think I really just need it on my transcript but for the graduate work that I would like to do after my ADN and BSN I really want to be able to show an A for it.
After looking at Matthai's web page he seems like he's a teacher who really wants his students to succeed if they are willing to work hard. The unknown project sounds a little intimidating but I'm sure I'll make it through. After all, how long can five weeks last?? :)

Don't worry about the unknown project. It is soooo much fun!! I loved Micro. It could be challenging but it was a super cool class. You'll love it!! Matthai is a hoot!! You'll like him.
Actually I'm taking it Summer 1. Supposedly TCC doesn't count any classes that you have "in progress" towards your nursing school application so if I took it over the fall I would be in the same situation that I'm in now with having it missing from my transcript. This way I'll have it completed before the spring application period begins in case I'm not called off of the alternate list.
mom - Ahh. I hope it goes well! I'm going to take it at TCC in the fall. My countdown is for El Centro/Northlake. I'm going to TCC right now, but since they want Chemistry (plus needing to have all sciences finished to get in since it is so competitive) and El Centro doesn't, it would take me longer to get in at TCC.
I'm not sure where you live, but have you looked at El Centro/Northlake? They use GPA only to decide who gets to get in. If you have an A in A&P I and have already taken Math, Psych and English (and have As or maybe one B), you might want to look into it as a back up plan. If you have any questions, let me know - I spent a lot of time trying to decide what to do :)
Gotcha.
I actually haven't looked into El Centro. Where is it located? Not only am I finished with my ADN prerecs (except for micro), I'm also finished with everything that UTA requires for my BSN except sociology which I'm planning to take in the fall if I don't get the "big call". However, UTA requires an 8 hour block of classes that have to be taken there before you can start your upper level nursing classes. I was trying not to put this off another semester but it looks I might be anyway. Plus, the tuition is so much cheaper!
El Centro is in downtown Dallas. Northlake is in Las Colinas/Irving. You submit one application for both campuses and just list your preference. Spring 07 applications are due August 31st.
From where I live, the TCC NE campus and Northlake are about the same distance away. But, TCC South campus is FAR.
For me, EC/NL makes more sense. For example, if you applied for Fall 06 admission with A&P I, Math (College Algebra), Psych (General Psych) and English with a 4.0 then you made it in. The last person accepted had a 3.77 GPA for those classes (which is an A in A&P and a B in one of the 3 hour classes and As in the other 3 hour classes). It doesn't require chemistry at all, even once you are in the program. For the record, Spring 06 was a little more competitve and took a 4.0 GPA on the pre-reqs to get in. I hope to start at Northlake in Spring 07.

I was torn between a four year program and a two year program. I only need 2 classes (both governments) to be finished with my general core program, but I still need A&P II, Micro and Chemistry for a four year program. Since it would delay my entry by 9 months to get the sciences out of the way just to apply, I decided to go for a 2 year program so I can start sooner and start earning money faster. (I'm trying not to work while I am in school).
If you take Micro in Summer, are you pretty much assured a seat in the TCC program for Spring 07?

Katy: Thanks for the info. Also, how many hours are you actually having to devote to the program per week?
Foundations, the first semester is like a full time job. You are there four days per week and there is a ton of stuff to do outside of class. Second semester has been alot more relaxed. Some of the material is intense but not unbearable. Honestly, it comes in spurts. One week you hardly have to crack a book, the next week you can't leave the house because you have a test and a project due, not to mention prep for clinical, etc. It has it's hairy moments, but right now it's fairly laid back. As for third semester, I've heard you really have to put your feet to the fire for the Pedi rotation. I'm a little nervous about what the fall will bring but I've come this far so BRING IT ON!! LOL!!
