Hello to everyone! I'm brand new to this site, but already finding lots of great information. Are any of you familiar with or applying to Tarrant County College ASN program? I'm in the dreaded wait until the first part of May. I took my TEAS exam last weekend and did really well so I'm hoping for the best! I look forward to getting to know each of you better.
See, the planner in me is thinking - what if they call me at the last minute, I'll be so behind already!I have a feeling that this is going to be a long summer!
I need to just let it go and realize that what is meant to be will be, but that is MUCH easier said than done.
Katy - when you were an alternate were you on the fall list or spring?
I was on the list for spring. I think it's a little tougher to get a call in the spring but one never knows. I've always heard the chances of getting in as an alternate are uaually better in the fall. Don't sweat it. If you get in at the last minute, you won't be that far behind. The first half of the semester is so overwhelming because you are just trying to acclamate. I can tell you from personal experience that all of that reading didn't help me a bit. LOL!! You end up reading some of the chapters but the foundations book STINKS!! It's very wordy and you don't remember half of what you read. We all used the ATI books to study from. So, my point is, if you get in at the last minute, it will be just fine. I soooo hope you get that phone call soon!!
Momto2,
I will be very willing to do anything I can to help you, that is, if you get called at the last minute. If you get notified earlier, then you will have plenty of time to prepare. You're very smart though, so you will have no problems at all. I just hope that you get called by orientation time so that you can join in on all that fun !!
Like gauge said, there are going to be several people that probably applied to another school of their choice, you know like TCU or UTA. And I wouldn't be too suprised if gauge was right on the acceptance shock and people changing their mind. I talked to one girl that was in her first semester and she said that quite a few people dropped within the first week or so.
Don't stress about that exam at all. It's simply to help you identify your learning style, etc. It has no bearing on anything one way or the other. It's just to help you to see how you learn best. Just be sure and get signed up for the CPR class that you want because they fill up pretty fast. If you wait, you'll still be able to get a class, it just may not be on the day you want.
I signed up for CPR the day after I got my package. I'm an early bird !! When I would register for my science classes, I would wake up at 6 am to make sure I got the class and teacher that I wanted. I try to stay one step ahead. I was actually thinking about pharmacology and possibly learning some of that over the summer....what semester is that going to be in ? I've heard that it's one of the toughest classes. If it's not in the first semester, I won't worry about it.

From what I was told yesterday, I really don't expect that to be the case. If I do get the call, I think it will be towards the end of the summer. I could be wrong, but that's just the feeling I got.
For now - if you can scare and bully as many people as you can at orientation that would be great!! ROFL

Katy - Any idea where you were on the list that semester, or was it a big secret then too?? LOL
hi there,
for various reasons that i won't bore y'all with now, i have been researching into a possible career change towards nursing...looking at the various programs available in north-east texas, along with investigating on other relative websites, as well. i suppose that i might as well mention up-front that i'm a guy, just so i'll be replied to as such . anyways, i decided to check out allnurses to get a better feel for the profession, and soon noticed this thread; i attended tcc - actually the northeast campus (which used to be affectionately referred to as tacojaco, back when it was tcjc) in the mid 90s, and really enjoyed it.
i've been silently observing y'alls continual comments here ever since i first noticed this thread 'cause i couldn't help but root for momto2beauties and brealyn, and couldn't help but further appreciate the over-all communication here. it's been a "breath of fresh air" to see such comradery ....and further helps me to understand what i could possibly be going though myself, down the road (yikes :uhoh21: ).
anyways, momto2beauties: i just wanted to say that i'm shocked and really sorry that you didn't receive absolute acceptance into the nursing program. you obviously have been working your tail off, making very impressive grades, did very well on the teas, and really deserved to be unconditionally accepted..... it's scary to think of what the competition must actually be like for the program.... it makes me wonder if i would have much of a shot (though it's waaaay too early to tell)....
brealyn: what can i say....but congratulations! your hard work has paid off. wasn't it you that said a while back that you live within walking distance of tcc? how great is that...especially with gas prices these days.
katydidit34: what you've done here is very sweet. 'nuf said.
good luck to each of you (and all others who read this, for that matter).....and wish me luck too. as i alluded to above, i'm in the early stages of trying to decide if this is the "academic plunge" that i really want to take.

I really hope that you're right. Just reading Brealynn's post makes me so excited about what is to come whether that be this semester or next.
