Hello to everyone! I'm brand new to this site, but already finding lots of great information. Are any of you familiar with or applying to Tarrant County College ASN program? I'm in the dreaded wait until the first part of May. I took my TEAS exam last weekend and did really well so I'm hoping for the best! I look forward to getting to know each of you better.
good luck to each of you (and all others who read this, for that matter).....and wish me luck too. as i alluded to above, i'm in the early stages of trying to decide if this is the "academic plunge" that i really want to take.
thank you so much, your words really do mean a lot. it's really strange to be in this position because it's just not one that i've been in before. when it comes to academics i've never been "not good enough" before - it really stinks. however, i know that it's not because i did do well enough it's just that i'm missing one of the requirements. it will be done during summer i and i'll possibly have a nice relaxing fall to spend with my two girls. as always, it's the waiting that will be tough.
good luck to you in whatever you decide. i've learned that you should go for your passion, that's the only way that you'll be happy. if you're following what you truly want to do, everything else will fall into place if you give it a little effort.
brealyn: what can i say....but congratulations! your hard work has paid off. wasn't it you that said a while back that you live within walking distance of tcc? how great is that...especially with gas prices these days.
thanks very much. yes i live within walking distance so it will be very nice indeed. you need to go for nursing. we were told at our orientation that male nurses are needed badly !!!
hi all,
momto2beauties: do you think that it might make a difference to the powers that be at tcc that you are going to take your last science class this summer? i’d show them the “a” :) that you get in the class, regardless….
brealynn: what was the explanation given to you during orientation regarding male nurses being needed "badly !!!"? did they just say it was because of the general shortage, or what? did you come to know anything especially fascinating during orientation?
also,
katy: i've been meaning to ask you this anyway.....i read that 6% of nurses are male, but that now about 9% of nursing students are male. are there very many male students in your program (i wouldn't let any of this play a role in my decision....., but i can't help but be curious about it)?
Honestly, I'm not really sure that it would make any difference at this point. When I went in for my advising appointment it was basically like, "We'll see how it turns out this semester, and if not see you next time". Pretty cut and dried if you know what I mean. I totally understand that though and knew that I was running that risk when I applied missing micro. It will all work out.
In the meantime I have an awesome non-profit agency that wants to hire me part time with most hours being work from home. It will be a great opportunity for me to get to know some doctors and hospitals, especially in my ultimate field of interest. So I've got that goin' for me. LOL
To all of you:
Is there a particular division within nursing that you would like to pursue?

momto2beauties:
Congrats on the job!

Brealynn:
During orientation, how many hours did they tell you would be expected out of you...?
===========================
Katy: Thanks for the info. Also, how many hours are you actually having to devote to the program per week?

Ok, I'll shut up now

good luck to you indeed!! i started out in 1989 at "tacojaco" for nursing. but unfortunately for me, i was too young and wild to settle into college. i went on to do my thing and ended up in the insurance industry. all my life, i knew i was to be a nurse. i was never really happy in any other job. now that i'm nearing middle age, i'm finally mature enough to go to college. lol!! i can honestly say that i love the challenges that nursing brings. you really have so much variety and that for me is the key to happiness. i wish you the best of luck as you ponder your next move. let me know if there's anything i can do to help you along in the process. good luck!!
