It will be nice to see all the new faces at orientation. I volunteer with the TNSA for orientation every semester and this will be my last semester to do this. Its is lots of fun and full of great information. Also please when it gets to the question and answer session, don't hesitate to ask questions to the staff as well as the student panel. It is nice to have your questions answered. Also we will be having a scrub sale of used scrubs for $2 each piece, we will be selling stethoscopes, pen lights, clip boards, etc at the TNSA office. If you are interested bring cash to orientation.
Antichick, I spoke with Bev a couple days after we got our letters about the scheduling. It took a little pushing but, she finally ensured me the 12 hr clinical and afternoon classes so I could continue working.txmommy, I have heard that a good quality stethescope (Littman) and electronic reader for ebooks are musts. How true is this? What essential supplies would you suggest
I have a Littman classic ($50-60 range) and love it. I know the cheaper models you will have a hard time hearing out of. Never heard anyone complain about Littmans. You don't need to go and spend hundreds on one but what I have will be great. As far as ebooks goes I am not too familiar with it only because they offered it for the first time last semester and it did me no good. I know that everyone who used the ebooks LOVES it. I can't really help you there sorry.
dreamer, did you make it in?
No, unfortunately my application was deemed "incomplete". I was given some false information back in May regarding a placement test that I had taken (I took the THEA, not the Accuplacer, and was originally told the grades would be accepted... then was told after it was too late that they wouldn't be). So, I had to scramble to find an 8-week Math 0350 class in order to be eligible to reapply in January.
All in all, I truly believe that everything happens for a reason, and I firmly believe that I needed to take a break to rejuvenate my mind, body and spirit before starting the rigorous nursing program.
As I said in a previous post, I am so happy for each and every one of you!! And I hope to share in your excitement in a few more months.

Wow, I wish I could have gotten that kind of reassurance.
Yes, I would say a good stethescope is a must. I know lots of ppl swear by the Littman, but I never liked it. I'll be ordering an Ultrascope.
As for the e-reader, I have to caution you. If you're thinking of something like a Kindle or Nook, those won't help with textbooks. I'm a certified tech hound and have a Nook (LOVE IT) and have been trying to move to all electronic texts for years. I've researched as far as I can on the e-texts for the RN program, and it appears that they are used on a PC. A Nook/Kindle can read *some* other info like .pdf's and non-textbook books (depending on availability) but I wouldn't recommend one just for this.
What I have that I love for texts is a small netbook. Plenty of power for Office apps (OneNote is THE BOMB for taking notes in class) and reading texts.
I have heard that an iPod Touch or similar is really helpful for clinicals because there are all sorts of reference apps you can load on it - I'm planning to buy a refurb gen 3 (no camera) if they say we can use them in clinicals.

I turned in my acceptance to Bev today, and got some information that others might be interested in... the ONLY 12 hour clinical available unless you are a JPS cohort is the Huguley one on Sundays. All others are 2 6's per week. (I had looked at WebAdvisor and seen one for Saturdays, but I didn't know that was restricted for that group.)
I really didn't want to chew up my Sundays and not be able to go to church at ALL in the Spring Semester, but I put down that I was interested, and hope I get it, because 2 6's really messes my schedule for work up.
So, hope that helps anyone else who was looking at the schedules. She also said that our schedules will be available on orientation day. (Makes sense & that's what I assumed, but got it confirmed.)
