Yeah, we ought to come up with a way to find each other at orientation. :)
I was lucky that I've had all my shots including Hep B years ago, but I couldn't find my shot records so my doc titer'd me for everything. Wierdly, my mumps hadn't taken so she gave me another MMR. So I didn't have to try and time my Hep B before school. But yes, it's my understanding that all shots have to be complete before school starts.
CONGRATS to everyone accepted to the TCC nursing program. I am currently in my 2nd to last semester and will graduate from the program in May. I am a member of the TNSA board and look forward to seeing everyone at orientation each semester. They will have information for you about e-books. People love it so far. They started it up too late for me to fully benefit from all of the books and such but I wish they would have had it when I started. As far as laptops go. There is no problem with them in the classroom for notes. I see it all the time. Once again congrats and enjoy the ride.
To theantichick, i just finish my second shot for Hepatitis B today, and i think i dont finish the Hep series before the school start:mad:. Call the Nursing Department today, and i have to do immunization waiver. Try to do my best for it. So all of you guys start doing your to do lists yet?
1. Get all the immunization done, complete healthform from the doctor.
2. Back ground check.
3. Get my CPR done.
4. Drug screening on Jan.
There are a long lists for all of us to run:smokin:
To txmommyof3: you'll finish soon huh:yeah::yeah: Do you have any advice for all of us? Books, study habit, do you think the ebook is really beneficial? I hope that i done with the immunization, so i can start school in Jan.
any advice would be appreciate.
Words of advice. Don't slack with your reading, keep up with it. Do lots of practice NCLEX questions (Saunders is a great book, I recommend it. I also recommend the Printice Hall Nursing Series books Foundations, Med/Surg, OB, Pedi, they have been a life saver of taking the middle information out and giving me the important information and they have NCLEX questions as well.) I know of some people in Foundations now using the e-books and they love it. I personally have not used it but the package deals sounds awesome to me. I think it all depends on how you learn. I know that you get the ebooks as well as hard back books and study guides and it costs about the same so sounds great to me.
Lets see other tips. You will feel OVERWHELMED quite a bit during your nursing school career. Just remember that it is only 2 years and then you will have your RN degree. Don't hesitate to ask for help from your peers and even people in higher semesters. They are valuable resources as well as TNSA's peer assistance program. I think the most important thing is to figure out what works for you and stick with it. Everyone has different ways of studying and not any one way is the best except what works for you.
I am the newsletter editor for TNSA so you can contact me anytime as well as anyone in the TNSA office.
Yes I was on the alternate list as well. I called up to the school after I got my letter and asked what I needed to do and also asked if they could tell me my number. You have to catch her on a good day to get that number from what I understand. But after getting into the program I have found that about 90% of the time all alternates are called to the program because many people apply lots of places, have family issues come up and so forth. Keep your head up and try and call to see where you stand on the list.
