Taking two anatomy classes at once

Published

Has anyone done this? I figured if I took two at once I can be done quicker instead of enrolling each semester just to take one class

Most schools have a required order to take courses...I'm sure if you check with your advisor you'll find that A&P I is a pre-req for A&P II, etc.

if i had NOTHING else going on, I would do it. But i mean NOTHING. It is not any harder than any nursing class, (easier than ours imo) but you have to spend a lot of time memorizing data. if you dont think your head will explode i say go for it.

Like most other people said, it doesn't sound like a good idea. At my school, a&p I was a pre-req for a&p II and so on. The information builds upon itself most of the time, and it's a LOT to learn for the class, let alone two at once.

It can be done. It's just a matter of time management and having the right studying skills.

My school allowed students to take the A&P I and II together or allowed students to take either class first, but they just changed the policy last Fall because many people were failing out or withdrawing. Now, they require students to take A&P I and II seperately and in sequence. They wanted people to actually have a solid understanding of certain concepts before moving on the the next course.

When I took Microbiology, I have to thank my school for making me take Inorganic and Organic chem and all my A&P classes beforehand. I saw a lot of students failing Microbiology or repeating the class because they didn't have the chemistry and biology backbone to help them understand certain concepts.

In hind-sight, taking two anatomy classes would have been a cake walk compared to taking three concurrent nursing classes...which my college nagotiates for the final two semesters. Of course, some people do not take all three in one semester, like I am doing. (Most do) Anyway, it's all about what you think you can handle. Just remember that it doesnt get any easier, but it does get more familiar. Good luck!

I had a guy in my A&P II class who had gotten special permission to take that without the A&P I prereq. He only needed one science class credit and II covered the systems he was interested in. He was a smart guy with medical experience, but he struggled with a lot of the basic theories that we covered in the first semester. I'm impatient so I totally understand your hurry, but I'm not the gambling type and I would not risk my grades by combining these two classes.

I took physiology and Organic Chemistry the same semester and got A's in both.

If you are determined to do it you can do it, it will be challenging just because of the amount of material, but it can be done.

However I would only advise this if you are a strong student. If you take both at the same time and get C's in both then your GPA will suffer and the nursing department will look down on C's in Anatomy.

I think that if you want to keep you GPA in tact that taking A&PI and A&PII simultaneously is not a good idea. There is a reason why at most schools one is a prereq for the other. If you absorb information like a sponge and have no other difficult classes or important non-school things going on, you could probably do it, but you might not learn it as thoroughly as you should and it might come back to bite you in the butt later on.

I took A&P II and Micro the same semester. I got bronchitis 1/2 way through the semester was out for a week and I still got B's in both.

Wow...that would be tough ....A&P takes alot of studying and there is NO way that i could have made it through both at the same time! Good luck with whatever you decide to do
