NCLEX was nothing of what i expected
Think about it!!! You passed!!! Why do you think those programs are good at preparing test-takers???? Because they go beyond what is expected. I all of the reviews just stuck to what they "though" could be asked on the NCLEX in a "knowledge" based form....do you really think you would get all of the knowledge that you needed to answer random computer navigated questions? NO!

Texas licensure question, please help.
TBON rules: Licenses are to be renewed by the end of the holder's birth month every two years. Renewal years will fall either odd or even according to the holder's birth year. INITIAL licenses are to be renewed no less than 9 months and no more than 29 months after initial licensure. After that, it is every two years on the nose. I believe this to be correct, as we learned it in school....but I couldn't find it on the BON website...so the numbers may be a little off. For example: My birthday is 11/04/1986. Therefore, if I recieved my license today, it would be up for renewal on 11/30/2010. This is because I was born in an even year and 11/30 is the end of my birth-month. Hope that helps...

I passed!!! I passeds with my first try!!
"Your first California RN license is issued for two birthdays - not two years - and it will expire the last day of the month following your birth date. From that date on, it will expire every two years, if renewed timely. Once a California license number is issued, it will always remain the same number whether active, inactive or delinquent. If the license lapses and is later renewed, the same license number and renewal cycle will apply." -CABRN Website Hope that helps.

Pearsonvue Trick Is this TRUE? Does it work every time?
Well.... I have to jump on the band-wagon here. I finished the NCLEX-RN at 0845 this morning after testing for one hour and fifteen minutes, completing a grand total of 75 questions. I have never been so exhausted in my life as I am at this very moment. After finishing the test, I came home to notice that my exam had not yet been "delivered". So, I waited until it stated that "delivery" had been "successful". I tried to register to sit for the NCLEX-RN for the second time and recieved the infamous "pass" message and could not proceed any further. I have now checked a couple of times, and the message remains the same. If for nothing more than scientific purposes, I will continue to follow this matter closely and alert this thread to my passing or failure.

Assessment in 20 mins?
In the managment clinicals (management of care), we have 6 pts to care for. We have 3 1/2 hours to complete all assessments with narrative focused and morning meds....as well as ND, interventions, teaching, etc. So 20 minutes to do 1 assessment is definitely doable.

Malpractice Insurance for Nursing Student?
My program carries a blanket coverage good for all students and is covered in out tuition.

This was a question on our test today. What do you think the answer is?
i agree that d. is the correct answer. in a, it says that the team will "challange" the client to alter distorted thought patterns and view self and world more realistically. this means, too me, that they are going to try and devert the patient away from disorientated thoughts as much as possible and try to bring him back to reality. that doesn't mean it will work, but they are at least planning to try. b - reminiscing is an intervention for alzheimer's dementia c - the patient will have painful emotional feelings that he may or may not be able to relay to the staff, so it would be important to help him describe and label them. d - why would you avoid using humor? makes little sense to me.

Please Help Stethescope!!!
i own a littmann (best stethescopes, in my opinion). i believe that all of the earpieces are shaped virtually the same (for the different models i have used, this is true. also, i used to own a light-weight model). the correct placement would be achieved by grasping an earpiece in each hand with the curve of the earpiece pointing away from your body, and then by placing the earbuds firmly in your ears. sometimes i lightly tug on the loop of the earpiece when i get it in my ears, to achieve a better seal with my ears and the earbuds. as far as holding the chestpiece to the chest or wherever, i hold the it between my fore-finger and middle-finger. thats the way we were taught to hold it and it seems easiest. (dont hold it with your thumb!). important: the head of the stethescope will swivle so that you can listen with the bell or the diaphragm (so you can hear different pitched sounds). make sure the bell is "closed" so that you are able to hear through the diaphragm. you will be able to determine this by tapping on the diaphragm while the stethescope is in your ears. if you don't hear a thunder of sound...you need to turn the head around. now, listening for heart-sounds is a different story. it is not so simply explained. i am not sure if you have learned the s1, s2, a1, a2, apical sounds yet since you just started. the apical site or apex of the heart is located on the left side of the sternum, mid-clavicular...or "nipple line. if you are listening through larger breasts or fake breasts, you may have to shift them to listen. here is a good "sounds" website that has help me with the sounds of the heart and lungs, etc: http://www.med.ucla.edu/wilkes/intro.html parts of stethescope: http://www.trimlinemed.com/index.php?newpage=support/stethoscopebasics.html

"Ah, there's no shame in that"
So guys, this is my first OP on this forum, but I felt that this needed to be addressed and it's occurence examined. I reccently experienced, for the up-teenth time, this (usually with another male): Other: "So...uh....are you going to college or anything?" Me: "Yeah, going to AC." Other: "Cool, cool. So what are you studying?" Me: "Nursing, RN." Other: "AH, THERE'S NO SHAME IN THAT." ...................WHAT? EXCUSE ME........................... First of all, what has been said to the other person that you need to be reassured that there is "no shame" in what you are doing? Secondly, I would have not spent years of my life, thousands of dollars, sacrificed friendships/family realationship, sweat, blood, and tears for something presumably shameful to anybody. This is what I would consider a "back-handed complement". A complement sent screaming towards you with no intended ill doings that smacks you right up-side the head and leaves you standing there, shocked at the assumptions that this person has taken 3.45 seconds in considering, not knowing exactly how to reply. I work at a hospital and go to school most of the time, this scenerio takes place outside of my associates. I gather that this happens to me as often as it does, because I am a male in a field which is predominantly female. Anyway, I would just like to know what you guys think about it and if you have ever experienced this or something similar. Something that presumes you may have shame in your profession.

Taking two anatomy classes at once
In hind-sight, taking two anatomy classes would have been a cake walk compared to taking three concurrent nursing classes...which my college nagotiates for the final two semesters. Of course, some people do not take all three in one semester, like I am doing. (Most do) Anyway, it's all about what you think you can handle. Just remember that it doesnt get any easier, but it does get more familiar. Good luck!
