  1. 1. Does the program limit clinical instructors to only FNPs or can clinical hours be obtained with a physician? You may obtain clinical hours from a nurse practitioner, physician assistant, and/or MD/DO. You must have at least one preceptor be a nurse practitioner to complete the requirements from the BON (just started Spring 2019 semester) 2. Approximately how many times per semester are campus visits required? Each semester you are required to attend POCE - approx. 30 mins SIMS lab starting in FNP I. In advanced health assessment plan on going to campus for a 3-4 days (same week) 3. Are clinical hours allowed in an emergency department or are hours limited to outpatient primary care sites? Your role as a FNP is to be in the community (according to the program director) although FNPs work in the ED, Urgent Care, etc therefore you may not use the ED for clinical hours with the exception of NP diagnostic reasoning 6 hours) I graduate in Dec 2019 from UTMB FNP program . The information given can change before you blink so be very flexible and try not to feed on other peoples high strung nature. Just relax! Have a great school year. BTW: Start looking for preceptors NOW!!! There is a new "law" that all schools have to find your preceptor or you can report them to the accreditation people but still won't help you find a preceptor if there is not one in your area. DO NOT pay for a preceptor. DO NOT stress about it start day 1 once you find one each semester send them a touch base EMAIL confirming they will still be able to precept you, etc.
  2. "Don't forget to do your press ganey survey."
  3. No you either go to campus for the exams or pay for a proctored exam for all the classes. If you have a quiz it is done @ home without a webcam depending on the class you may have to use a lockdown browser. In the FNP courses the exams are 50 questions each and he class has either 3 or 4 exams except FNP IV which has none. Working while in the clinical part is doable because you only have 180 clinical hours per semester. I have not needed a webcam at all during the program for any of the classes but that is the least of your worries....I would not recommend the program. I am projected to graduate from it Dec 2019.
  4. The other day the ED doc was to do a closed reduction to an ankle fx with conscience sedation. I asked if we could do a time out because I thought that was a standard of care across the board. The ED doc did the time out then called it pointless:mask: right in front of the patient and his wife. I know that it was plain as day the mans ankle was messed up but was I wrong for asking for a time out before giving the man medication? My thought process was #1 it is a patient safety issues and he is not going to die if we take 30 seconds to verify. #2 you never know who the patient is or his family and I don't want to get caught up doing wrong especially when it is easy and safe to do right. I felt really stupid after the doc made that comment and I know it was not directed toward me (at least I hope). I don't want to have to defend myself or have to "check" a doctor because his smart mouth. Thanks!
  5. For myself I start off with a ADN but I am currently in a BSN program. I would have still had 2 years of nursing school regardless of the route I took. I did not have anyone to talk with about nursing and all I saw was ADN was cheaper. If I could do it over again I would have gotten my BSN and now I would be getting my MSN. A LOT of places only hire BSN nurses. Being a new grad with a ADN it could be hard to find I job. I work for a magnet hospital and they really push for BSN nursing and higher but they will pay for everything so it's a win. Good luck!
  6. I hate the TKO orders when they walk around and eat/drink up everything in sight. I always end up just d/c'ing the order:nurse:
  7. Did you end up ever using any off the other supplies in the box or just the v-scope.
  8. Working at staples in copy and print! Super easy.
  9. I got my ADN and now I am in the RN to BSN online program. Looking back I wish I would have got my BSN because the nursing program for me was still 2 years regardless of the degree type. Now I feel like I wasted time and $ getting an ADN.
  10. I took my NCLEX in the city and then I moved to Texas a year later. I know of some classmates who took their test in W.Falls. The pay here (TX) is sooo much better than Lawton! It is unreal. Good Luck to You!
  11. It is unreal the things people talk about at work. Most of us are only here 3 days a week sometimes 4 and by the end of the week I know who is on there period, whos husband gave them herpes back in 1997, and whos child is getting a whipping in the morning. I just sit back and wonder why. Why do you feel the need to tell someone at work this information let alone the whole entire nurses station and then you want to be the first one crying when someone is gossiping about you....SMH. I have learned over the years to keep my mouth shut. Every thinks I am so quiet, etc but really it is that I know how it goes and I don't need to have a problems at work. I tell them all the time TMI but they just don't get it. It is so bad that I often find a C.O.W. and sit in the hallway just so I don't have to listen. :smackingf
  12. I am still on orientation. The other night at work a seasoned RN gave her pt Valium straight into the vein (like how a drug user shoots up) because Valium was not compat. with NS. I feel werid about it like it was not suppose to be done that way because the order said IV and when I think of IV I think of the IV pump but on the other hand the order said IV and that is into the vein. I guess I have never seen that before and was wondering what would you have done and was that okay to do? Thank you very much. I am really nervous about being a RN there is so much to learn that wasn't in school! XOXO, Jennifer:redbeathe:heartbeat:nurse::typing:saint:
  13. I just graduated in May from RN school:lol2:. After I get my license I wanted to move to VA BEACH, VA but I am having a terrible time finding a job opening that I am quali. for. I am single and I don't have any kids. I live in a small town and I do have a job "lined-up" on a 20 bed med-surg floor. I really want to move I am going crazy here. Any advice you can give me or anything. I was always told the world needs nurses but it is looking like they want nurses with experience and not us newbes:o.......I am ready to work:yeah: I just need a place. Thanks so much!:redbeathe Jennifer
  14. mr. winston is an 89-year-old who was diagnosed with alzheimer's disease 5 years ago. since he is in the last stages of his disease, he has been referred to a local hospice program. the interdisciplinary team meets to discuss his plan of care. which intervention would not appear in this plan of care? a.challenge the client to alter distorted thought patterns and view self and the world more realistically. b.reminisce about past experiences with the client, as appropriate. c.assist the client in labeling the painful emotion that he is feeling. d.avoid using humor with the client because he will not understand. ****i picked a but the correct answer is d. of course they couldn't offer me a reason. the reason i chose a was because in the last stage of the disease no matter what you say if they want to go ride a plane that is what they are "going" to do.****
