Hi everyone,
I've posted a few times about wanting to become a school nurse. I'm currently in acute care, and have applied to 2 school RN jobs in NY with no call-back. I'm revamping my resume to try to appeal more to the job. I've added things like "work with families and colleagues to develop plans and achieve goals" because it sounds like IEP stuff a school RN would do (a translatable skill). I also have years of teaching experience, which I'm sure is helpful.
What do administrators want to see on a resume for a school RN?

Have you subbed? ED? EMT? Peds? SpEd?
(I'll let you know when I'm leaving, you can have my school!)
I wish I could sub, but I work too much at my current gig (8 hour workday, can't get 12 hour shift to free up my time). I work in a unit that takes adults and teens. No ed/EMT. 90 clinical hours of school nursing in my BSN program at a special needs school (wrote about that in my cover letter).
Was a sped teacher too.

You should get some bites, then.

How long have you been a nurse? I wasn't getting any call backs until I meet the minimum years required, but I didn't realize why I hadn't getting calls until in an interview they mentioned that requirement. So, have you double checked that you meet all the requirements?

Mention community work and services. Public health stuff.

Mention assessment skills, and that emphasis is placed on disease prevention and management. And wellness.
It also helps if you have experience managing issues such as asthma, diabetes, seizures..
NY, you don't have to be certified. They want experience.
All the SN I know in NY have YEARS of experience, myself included.
That may be what's holding you back.
And it is ridiculously competitive despite the crappy pay! There were 21 applicants for this job.
My first school nurse job was when I had only 1 year of experience. I was there 4 years. I came back to school nursing this school year, and I have 12 years of experience now.
What do you consider crappy pay? I was offered 54K at this job, and great benefits.

I literally salivated at this... My pay is almost 50% less than that
