Tailoring resume for school nursing

Published

Hi everyone,

I've posted a few times about wanting to become a school nurse. I'm currently in acute care, and have applied to 2 school RN jobs in NY with no call-back. I'm revamping my resume to try to appeal more to the job. I've added things like "work with families and colleagues to develop plans and achieve goals" because it sounds like IEP stuff a school RN would do (a translatable skill). I also have years of teaching experience, which I'm sure is helpful.

What do administrators want to see on a resume for a school RN?

I made 22K last year (my first full year) ... but I'm in western NY, where the pay is generally not great for school nurses, but my school is one of the lowest paid of all. :sorry:

What do you consider crappy pay? I was offered 54K at this job, and great benefits.

Mid 40s

$34,000

Was making $70,000+ at the hospital.

Yep, me too. Thank heavens for hubby or I'd be at poverty level.

I literally salivated at this... My pay is almost 50% less than that

I would quit! No way!

oh wow! my friends make 80-90K in the hospitals in Houston area. The pay is good here, and the cost of living is affordable.

It's why I'm on the path to become certified. Much higher pay. In the meantime, I work two jobs and live frugally. I'm very conservative with money and maintain a pretty large savings account (self funded, for the record :) )

Farawyn-Are you leaving this year? What will you do next? I'm still in daily conflict on my plan to stay or go...."should I stay or should I go now..." (with musical notes)

$70,000+ in the hospital...Was that 3 12's what kind of nursing did you all do before? Do you miss it?
